This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.

What You'll Do:

The Office of Management Information Systems is seeking a help desk representative to serve as the first point of contact for internal customers seeking technical assistance over the phone and/or email. This position will:

  • answer queries on basic technical issues and offer advice to solve them including password resets, VPN or wireless network connections, email or printing issues, workstation peripherals
  • provide support and service to information system users on a computer or telecommunication network running in stand-alone, client/server, web-based, and/or networked environment using established methods and procedures
  • performs remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions
  • directs unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel (Tier II and III Information Technologists and Infrastructure Specialists)
  • provide installation and monitoring support to Information Technology (IT) specialists - unpacks hardware, software and related equipment; stages and racks hardware; performs set-up and installation for hardware and software; establishes network connectivity.

Qualifications


Position Qualifications
:

6 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: computers &/or electronics and/or in telecommunications performing routine analysis, programming, installation, maintenance and/or systems support, solving problems with pre-determined methods on basic hardware or software including experience providing customer support.
  • Or 2 courses in computer science or information systems.

  • Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:
  • Associates or advanced degree in computer science or information systems
  • Experience working in a technical call center (e.g., Internet Service Provider, IT)
  • Experience working with customers to identify technical issues (e.g., ISP, cell phones, TV, software)
  • Experience working with customers to identify and troubleshoot computer software/hardware issues
  • Experience with MS Windows and applications in an enterprise environment
  • Experience creating user documentation (e.g., user manuals, online self-help systems, and IT knowledge bases)
  • Experience working with a IT Service management Portal (ticketing software)

Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 30, Step 1 of the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule ($23.49 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($24.39) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
