Full-Time and Permanent; Non-Exempt; 7.5 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year; Grade NN General Responsibilities In a probationary and on-the-job-training capacity, performs report writing, training, and system support work on the NPS Student Information Systems (SIS). An employee assigned to a position in this class is responsible for developing reports for schoolhouse and central administration personnel, performing routine system processes, and training NPS staff in the use of various SIS functions and systems. The specific SIS work involves performing various SIS system processes on the SIS student records management operation, and supporting the SIS student records management operation via report writing and user training.
This is the first of a two level career ladder series. Those employees who meet the prescribed experience and proficiency requirements may be advanced non-competitively to the second level upon recommendation of the Director, Information Technology and approval by the Department of Human Resources. Education and Experience Possession of a bachelor's degree in computer science / MIS and some work experience in software development and database administration, preferably including application development experience in public school systems; or any equivalent combination of experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skill and ability.
Essential Job Functions This is the entry level of the Information Systems Specialist series, with a specialization in user training and system process operation. The class is differentiated from the IS Specialist II class (the journey programmer), IS Specialist III (full proficiency programmer / analyst), and Systems Analyst - Coordinator SIS (full proficiency Project Manager, Systems Analyst or DBA). Assists a more senior IS specialist with providing data management oversight and user support for one or more key SIS functions.
For these functions, prepares documentation and training materials, and organizes and conducts training sessions for schoolhouse SIS users, including but not limited to; principals, assistant principals, teachers, and office staff.Under the direction of the SIS supervisor or a more senior level IS specialist, identifies SIS data inaccuracies and works with other Information Systems Specialists responsible for other SIS functions, and with Information Systems professionals responsible for reporting and record keeping, to identify data inaccuracies, and to develop error reports, documentation, and procedures for users to aid in the correction and elimination of SIS data errors. Responds to ad hoc requests for summary information not available in standard reports.Under direction of supervisor(s), performs cyclical SIS processes such as grade reporting, academic history rollover, state discipline extract production. Responds to ad hoc requests for summary information not available in standard reports.Under direction of supervisor(s), confers with school and central office staff to determine information needs, extracts data from SQL databases, designs and formats reports and related items for information presentation.
