Job description

VTA has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated entry level desktop / help desk support analyst with strong technical customer service skills to join the Technology Department as an Information Systems Analyst - Assistant. This position will assist in installing computer hardware and software and perform other technology support duties as needed. This role is pivotal in helping VTA keep conference room Technology operational and updated with the latest audio/visual needs of the organization.

Ideal Candidate
Has good customer service skills, good computer skills including understanding and troubleshooting computer hardware and software and an understanding network hardware and troubleshooting network issues. Able to lift at least 20lb
Definition
Under general supervision, the Information SystemsAnalyst Assistant provides technical and analytical support to VTA's computer networks and microcomputers.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the entry level in the Information Systems Analyst series. This class is distinguished from the higher level of Information Systems Analyst I by the performance of more basic and routine tasks including the preparation of computer hardware for installation, minor troubleshooting, routine software installations, handling simple systems change controls, and monitoring of operational computer systems. This class may perform some higher-level tasks in a training capacity.

Duties performed may vary depending on the area of assignment and within working level.
  • Prepares and installs computer hardware, software, upgrades and peripherals;
  • Monitors operational systems, performs backups, manages off-site storage of media, runs production jobs, troubleshoots system wide problems;
  • Troubleshoots operational and maintenance problems, and confers with other staff on status, issues and action;
  • Analyzes network problems, operations and configurations to identify system improvements and enhance operating efficiencies and coordinates with programmers as needed;
  • Coordinates the implementation of hardware and software additions and enhancements;
  • Controls changes to the various system environments including application software, database, and operating systems;
  • Performs related duties as required.
Employment Standards
Sufficient training, education, and experience with computer systems to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited junior college, college, or university with a two-year degree in computer science or related field.

Knowledge of:
  • Basic understanding of the operational characteristics of computers, networks, operating systems, and software.
Ability to:
  • Prepare computer hardware for installation;
  • Install basic software packages and upgrades;
  • Perform basic computer operations tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Meet schedules and timelines;
  • Learn the control of system changes;
  • As directed, be available to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays including on call (24/7/365);
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
