Position Focus:

The Information Security Engineer (Networking) is responsible for the NGN Project Security Initiatives Implementation: Leads the technical implementation and evaluation of the security program for Yale’s Next Generation Network (NGN) project. Focuses on establishing effective security boundaries within the network architecture, ensuring secure operational practices, and addressing identified security risks. Ensures NGN designs and implementations are robust and adhere to cybersecurity best practices. Advanced Network Security Engineering in NGN Environment: Directs the development and implementation of advanced security measures throughout the University's IT infrastructure. Concentrates on crafting robust, scalable, and secure solutions to guard against evolving cyber threats. Utilizes expertise in security technologies, such as Software Defined Networks (SDNs), advanced SDN segmentation technologies, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems. Integrates these technologies into the NGN project, enhancing the overall security posture while maintaining network performance and user accessibility. Uses programming and scripting expertise to develop and automate custom security solutions, focusing on innovative security measures for enhanced network security and efficiency. Data-Driven Security Strategy: Leads a data-driven approach to cybersecurity, leveraging analytics to inform decisions and strategies. Utilizes network traffic analysis, pattern recognition, and anomaly detection to proactively identify and address security risks. Integrates and uses monitoring tools and security information and event management (SIEM) systems to continuously assess the security state of the university. Collaborative Approach and Strategy Alignment: Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams across the university to ensure that security initiatives are aligned with broader organizational goals and the specific needs of the NGN project. Coordinates with teams to identify potential security risks and implement effective mitigation strategies. Maintains communication with risk and compliance teams for comprehensive risk management.

Essential Duties

1. Actively develop solutions to detect and prevent network intrusions. 2. Serve as lead for moderately complex risk assessments. 3. Manage the development and implementation of actions plans. 4. Oversee the periodic assessment of systems. 5. Participate in the development of program control processes to ensure risk mitigation. 6. Develop and deliver Information Security training material. 7. Provide guidance to and may supervise level 1-3 analysts. 8. Research the latest Information Security trends and emerging threats.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree and seven years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
