Works in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs of other departments. Many system management functions can only be performed during non-peak hours. Normal work hours are from 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday. This position reports to the
designated Clinical IT Manager.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position requires close interaction with physicians, nurses and other ancillary departments.
Job Description
The IT Informaticist - Entry is responsible for performing activities related to designing, building, testing, implementing, training, evaluating, maintaining, upgrading, enhancing and supporting their assigned clinical information systems. Duties may include documenting workflow processes and collaborating with defined departments to streamline process and efficiency.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
Preferred qualifications include experience in a health care related field or information systems.
A current license from the Texas State Board within the field of their clinical experience, if applicable.
If the employee currently holds a clinical licensure or certification, the employee must maintain their licensure or certification in accordance to their respective state governing board. The employee holds complete responsibility for all activities, education, and training required to maintain their clinical licensure or certification.
Physical Capabilities
Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting, and standing most of the time while on-duty. Occasional lifting of equipment is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required for typing. Talking and hearing is essential in dealing with co-workers and customers.
Skills and Abilities
The ability to communicate with end users to ensure that customer needs are understood and appropriate decisions are facilitated. PC skills and an understanding of commonly used software. Basic networking and PC communication protocols preferred. Knowledge of best practice guidelines in a variety of clinical settings related to documentation, practices, and care delivery protocols.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, analytical, project management and problem-solving skills along with the ability to work in a team environment and independently. The IT Informaticist - Entry must be able to maintain good relationships with providers, clinical staff, support staff and other departments in order to elicit information necessary to optimize clinical work processes and keep systems performing at a functioning level.

Five years of experience in a hospital environment with knowledge of nursing process and hospital operations. 0-1 years of experience supporting clinical information systems or in the clinical informatics field.

The IT Nurse Informaticist - Entry serves as the key point of contact between clinical staff and the Clinical Information Technology department. The IT Nurse Informaticist - Entry integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and to ensure the information systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice. Collaborates with users of Clinical Information Systems to identify potential areas for improving Information Systems. This position supports in the implementation of Information System initiatives. This role has responsibility for functional leadership and day-to-day operational support of Clinical Information Systems utilized in clinical areas. This position will serve as a liaison in clinical application system initiatives to assigned clinical disciplines and the Clinical IT Department. Serves as the internal nursing consultant to the Clinical Informatics Department and other IT Teams.
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
RN License to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas required.
