Oversees the Infection Prevention Program.
Advises and consults with physicians, nurses, hospital personnel and community members on any issues related to Infection Prevention.
Analyzes infection incidents, sentinel events, and risk outcomes with administrators, physicians, clinical leaders, and staff to identify improvement opportunities utilizing quantitative techniques and knowledge of health care operations and systems thinking.
Obtains and uses literature, best practice, and benchmark data whenever possible.
Provides leadership to assure compliance with federal and state regulatory programs and accreditation requirements, as well as established organizational policies and procedures.
Establishes and oversees the development and implementation of short- and long-range goals and objectives and determines the optimal progression to obtain these goals. Reviews, analyzes, and reports on various activities to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives.
Instruct staff, volunteers and visitors on Infection Prevention protocols and requirements.
Monitors infectious/communicable diseases and assures appropriate precautions and exposure follow-up as needed.
Responsible for hospital nosocomial infection surveillance and reporting. Oversees coordination and administration of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Plan and the Tuberculosis Prevention Program.
Functions as the facility's Tuberculosis Prevention Officer.
Acts as liaison with local and state health departments for reportable diseases and public health concerns.
Prepares quarterly and annual Infection Prevention program reports and submits on time to all applicable committees.
Oversees Infection Prevention during construction and maintains necessary documentation.
Regularly reviews hospital policies as they pertain to current Infection Prevention practice recommendations by professional and regulatory agencies and assures their revision and implementation as indicated.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Nursing, Epidemiology or Microbiology required.
• RN or MLT preferred.
• Current CIC (CBIC) preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of previous experience in a clinical setting (Laboratory or Nursing) required.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
• Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite programs are required.
