JOB SUMMARY:
Works with the Administrative and Medical Directors of Infection Control to develop and implement strategies to prevent healthcare associated infections. Duties include healthcare associated infection surveillance and identification, prevention and control measures of infectious diseases, guiding activities of infectious disease isolation, offering consultation on regulatory agency compliance, and communicating with the Medical Center community related to educational material pertaining to infectious diseases. The data generated from surveillance activities is used to make decisions at the highest levels of the medical center.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with three years experience in infection control required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Above average work performance for the last year of employment documented (meets and often exceeds expectations in annual evaluation or comparable evaluation).
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of North Carolina and Certified in Infection Control (CIC) per the eligibility requirements by the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC) required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides clinical lead role for Infection Control Practitioners, including presentations to physicians and managing data and data integrity.
2. Consults with administrators and clinicians to develop processes and implement operational procedures that minimize the spread of hospital acquired infections.
3. Conducts healthcare acquired infection surveillance.
4. Recommends the indicated isolation precautions and management of communicable diseases.
5. Provides clinical and administrative oversight in incorporating infection control standards into hospital-wide and departmental infection control policies, including responsibility for policy schedules and posting.
6. Serves as a consultant on all infection control issues and is available to respond as needed after regular business hours.
7. Develops, prepares, and presents educational programs.
8. Responsible for maintaining regulatory preparedness, including The Joint Commission, OSHA, and DHSR, through committee representation, managing policy implementation, and employee education.
9. Performs leadership role in Infection Control meetings, accountable for distribution of data, responsible for the clinical training and development of new ICPs, and acts as the primary RN liaison between departments.
