Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: Develops and implements individual and group educational plans for infant and toddler aged children, designed to promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth in a manner appropriate to their stage of development. Provides leadership through active direction and direct involvement with Center Aides and Volunteers.

Telamon provides programs and services in three areas, Early Childhood and Family Support, Workforce Career Services, and Housing & Financial Empowerment.

The Teacher-Infant/Toddler position has multiple salary grade levels based on education and experience. Starting salary for this position ranges from $13.89 to $17.69+. Please refer to the Role Qualifications section for requirements at each avaliable grade level.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops and implements individualized and group lesson plans and educational activities that promote all developmental areas to improve the readiness of children for school.
2. Guides and facilitates activities of the children including daily classroom activities and field trips. Uses creativity to provide healthy and safe activities that are developmentally and age appropriate.
3. Selects and sets up equipment and materials in the classroom. Ensures there is a safe and healthy developmentally appropriate learning environment.
4. Maintains accurate records, both on paper and in designated on-line systems. Maintains confidentiality regarding students and families. 5. Plans, conducts and documents observations, assessments and screenings. Maintains a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child including weekly observations, examples of the child's work, and developmental assessments.
6. Composes and proofreads correspondence and reports. 7. Conducts home visits and parent conferences to discuss the child's individual development and progress and assists parents in developing observational skills. 8. Works with the Center Aides and Volunteers to develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
9. Protects the safety of children by implementing active supervision techniques to ensure no child is left alone or unsupervised at any time.
10. Uses the playground as an extension of the classroom; assures that the playground is safe.
11. Eats with and assists children in eating to teach social and self-help skills and sound nutritional practices.
12. Ensures that the physical needs of children are met, assisting children in health and personal habits, such as eating, resting, brushing teeth, diapering and toilet habits.
13. Creates ways to engage parents in the education of their children including encouraging classroom involvement and home activities.
14. May perform duties of other staff members (Bus Monitor, Center Aide, Teacher Assistant) in time of staff shortage.
15. Ensures the mobilization and documentation of matching/in-kind funds.
16. May assist in preparing meals.
17. Inventories all classroom equipment and supplies annually.
18. Works in cooperation with supervisor to develop and document progress on professional development plan. Actively engages in professional development activities to increase qualifications in accordance with Corporation's Core Values.
19. Fills in on a temporary basis when a staff member needs to leave the classroom for a short duration.
20. Participates in staff meetings and training sessions.
21. Work may require the flexibility to stay until all children have left the program.
22. Keeps classroom clean and organized.
23. May translate.
24. Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no direct supervisory duties but is considered a subject matter resource for others and may participate in distributing workload, quality control and training.

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience Requirements

Grade 11:
* Infant Toddler Child Development Associate *(CDA) credential or comparable credential, and have been trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development is required. Willingness to work towards any additional credentials needed to move to the next level in the position. Minimum: 1 year experience working directly with young children, 0-5 years, and a willingness to pursue further education & training in the field of Early Childhood Education (tuition assistance may be provided).Preferred:

Grade 15:
* Associate's degree in child development or early childhood or related field*
* 2 years of experience working with infant-toddler children is preferred.

Grade 16:
* Bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education, or related field or related field*
* 1 year of experience working with infant-toddler children is preferred.

* Bilingual (Spanish/English) desired but not required.

All grades require completion of CPR/First Aid within a month of hire.

State requirements may vary, individual must meet requirements for state in which they are employed.

*Degree in a related field is defined as an associate, baccalaureate, or advanced degree in a field other than child development or early childhood education that either includes or is supplemented by twelve (12) college credits in child development, early childhood, or equivalent coursework focusing on children birth to age five. At least 3 of those credits must be in an infant toddler focused foundations course in child development.

* Work is performed mostly inside the facility.
* Standing for prolong periods of time.

* Exposure to blood, other bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals and dirt.
* Keyboarding and data entry, use of telephone.
* Where applicable, conduct home visits to customer residences, exposure to potentially unsafe environments, climb stairs.
* Regular attendance for this position is required, as regular attendance ensures we are providing the services we have committed to provide to the children and families we serve.

Background Checks:
* All employees are subject to both a pre-hire and an annual background check. Specific rules by Line of Business will indicate whether a state or federal fingerprint background check (or both) is required and the frequency. A fingerprint background check may suffice for a regular background check. Additional background checks may be required such as the Child Abuse and Neglect State Registry, and the Sex Offender Registry.

Positions that Require Driving (as designated by supervisor)
* Telamon Corporation/Transition Resources employees that are required to drive a personal vehicle for work-related duties are to meet the auto insurance liability requirement. The minimum limits required are $100,000 each person bodily injury, $300,000 each accident bodily injury and $50,000 property damage. The insurance liability requirement covers use of an employee's personal vehicle.
* Telamon Corporation/Transition Resources employees that drive a company-owned/rental vehicle must maintain a satisfactory annual motor vehicle record check.
* Must have own transportation, a valid driver's license, and vehicle insurance.
