Job description

Job Summary
The successful candidate will serve as High Voltage Technician installing, construction, inspection, maintenance, and repairs of university primary electrical systems, boulevard lighting, primary and secondary underground and aerial services, and all other High Voltage systems and connections. Work with voltages from 120V to 12,470V. Train, lower level, SK2 level employees on advanced knowledge of High Voltage troubleshooting techniques and system operations.
What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Four years' extensive experience in electrical theory and practice

Skills Needed:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to:
  • lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently; and up to 100 lbs. or more occasionally
  • climb ladders and scaffolds and work from heights up to 100 feet
  • work under a variety of conditions, such as confined space (tunnels, pit), heights, and hot/cold conditions
  • Will work outdoors 75% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees
  • Exposed to hazardous conditions associated with High Voltage electricity
  • A valid US or Canadian driver's license
  • Must obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 90 days
  • Must maintain Commercial Drivers License

What is helpful (Preferred):
  • Experience with University primary and secondary distribution systems
  • Familiarity with transformer connections and voltages and all phases of the aerial and underground line construction and repair
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Basic computer skills with word processing and spreadsheets

Additional Information:
  • All new hires will be expected to follow Protect Purdue guidelines
  • Purdue will not sponsor an employment authorization for this position
  • This position is subject to 24-hour callback, planned and unplanned overtime, and flexible time
  • A Background Check will be required for employment in this position
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)
  • Retirement Eligible: Non-exempt Defined Contribution Plan
