Industrial Application Developer/System Installer

Love to travel? Want to see the world, but don’t want to be away from home too much? We’re a small company, but our systems are installed in over 45 countries across the globe. Travel is about 10% to 15%, domestic and international. Most trips are about one week long, sometimes two, but almost never exceed two weeks.

Our company, Forté Technology, Inc., has supplied custom moisture measurement systems for more than 60 years, mainly to the paper pulp and textile industries.

We’re looking for a Application Developer who has some experience in real-time Industrial Applications. The software application for our inline systems records the date and time of the measurement, assigns serial numbers to the items being measured, records data, calculates moisture content, and groups the items into lots. We calculate totals and averages and produce production reports. We offer various graphs for analysis of production. We also provide remote viewing of data and archive the data in SQL databases.

Our software uses the .NET framework and is written using C# and VB.NET. Legacy systems are VB6. The software needs to communicate with our system electronics, a weight display, and usually with our customers’ PLC for tracking signals or data input. We track bales from the production area through the Forté electrode or Test Cell and often to a marker. We sometimes send data to the marker for the customer to print on the product. Some of the methods of communication that we use include serial, Ethernet, OPC, Modbus, Profibus, etc.

We’re looking for someone to develop new code, maintain some old code, and install systems at customers’ mill sites. Hardware installation is done by the customer’s personnel with a Forté engineer as supervisor only. Additionally, we need this person to communicate with customers to ensure the system meets their needs and work with others at Forté to test systems prior to shipment, create documentation, and assist in drafting system manuals.

There will be a minimum amount of supervision for this position so the ability to work independently is important. Exceptional organizational skills are needed to manage multiple projects through to completion according to time schedules and excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to interact with customers. A background in electronics or client industry experience would be a plus, but isn’t required.

BS in computer science or equivalent. 3-5 years experience preferred. Local candidates only, please. This is not a remote position and we do not pay relocation costs.
