Result of Service
This individual contractual service will contribute to progress, identifying gaps and challenges in responding to and preventing sexual exploitation and abuse, and informing the development of policies and tools to strengthen the UN system-wide approach.

Expected duration
9 months Starting from 15 June 2024 through 14 March 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position is located in the Office of the Special Coordinator on improving the United Nations response to sexual exploitation and abuse (OSCSEA). This Office supports the ongoing efforts of the Secretary-General and the leadership of United Nations offices, departments, funds, and programmes along with other Implementing Partners, to strengthen the response to sexual exploitation and abuse in peacekeeping, humanitarian, development and human rights sectors. The incumbent reports directly to the Senior Political Affairs Officer (P5). To perform the following duties. • Supports the Senior Political Affairs Officer in PSEA matters relating to the humanitarian and development sectors. • Monitors, collects and analyzes annual PSEA Action Plans and Management Letters. • Analyzes and summarizes documents, reports and media articles related to PSEA, identifying gaps and issues, proposing necessary actions and best practices. Conducts research on topics of relevance to the mandate. • Collaborates with UN entities and other partners and stays abreast of latest trends and developments relating to PSEA within the UN system and partners. • Monitors and analyzes data on SEA allegations to identify trends and assess potential risks, informing prevention and response measures. • Supports the simplification and development of key PSEA policies and guidelines to strengthen and align the UN’s. approach to preventing sexual exploitation. • Engages with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate activities and operations within the humanitarian and development sectors. • Supports the system-wide training working group. supports the mapping, review and assessment of existing PSEA trainings across the UN system, as well as producing updates and best practices. • Provides support HLSG (High-Level Steering Group) meetings. Helps with follow-up and implementation of its decisions. • Supports the Office's donor relations and fundraising endeavors, helping to identify potential funding sources, preparing funding proposals, assists in managing donor relations, facilitating donor reporting, and compiling internal budget narrative reports. • Provides technical and substantive support to PSEA practitioners (PSEA coordinators and PSEA focal points) on PSEA issues, facilitating information sharing and best practices through webinars and meetings such as the SEA WG and Brown Bag. • Performs other duties, as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Minimum of master’s degree in gender studies, human rights, social sciences, psychology, international relations, peace and security, humanitarian affairs, development studies and/or related field. Required minimum 1 year of experience in the field of gender studies, social sciences, international relations, peace and security, humanitarian affairs and or political affairs, development studies and related fields. Experience pertaining to addressing sexual and gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) and/or the protection of civilians is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
Additional Information
Outputs/Work Assignment • Produces regular and ad hoc reports on the monitoring and analysis of data concerning SEA, trends, potential risks, and the effectiveness of prevention and response measures being employed within the humanitarian and development sectors. • Provides analyses of annual PSEA Action Plans and Management Letters and alerts office leadership to issues requiring their intervention or attention. • Provides regular updates and reports to leadership concerning donor relations and fundraising endeavors. • Attend regular meetings (various) and provide meaningful summaries of discussions and outcomes. • Responds to day-to-day requests for support from within the humanitarian and developments contexts across the UN system. • Regular interaction with partners, to collaborate on improving current policies and practices for preventing and responding to the sexual exploitation and abuse. • Delivers reports on topics of relevance. Other skills and competencies Functional Competencies • Expertise and skills in the design, development of tools, guidance and trainings for UN and I/NGO actors. • Technical expertise on gender related issues, including PSEA. • Strong analytical skills with conceptual understanding. • Strong, proven functional skills in analytical writing, and producing toolkits, templates, reports, research, and assessments. • Excellent demonstrated ability to be flexible, works under tight deadlines in an independent working environment. • High level of communication and interpersonal skills; experience in working effectively in a multi-cultural environment. • Good understanding of the UN common system and policies.
