Within Eli Lilly and Company's Diabetes, Obesity, and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA), our focus centers on discovering biologic, small molecule, and genetic therapeutics for diabetes, obesity, and related complications. We are actively seeking a motivated scientist with a solid background in cell biology and/or pharmacology. The successful candidate will design and implement studies in both primary and immortalized cells to identify and validate novel targets, elucidate mechanisms of action, and contribute to the development of potential new medicines. This role entails establishing crucial laboratory capabilities and collaborating with fellow scientists across departments to achieve project and departmental objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Be hands-on in the laboratory to build, develop and implement cellular and/or biochemical assays to assess new targets
  • Develop and implement screening workflows to identify and validate new targets or test mechanisms of action.
  • Function independently, work within a team-oriented lab environment and work within cross-functional project teams.
  • Design and implement laboratory experiments
  • Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.

Minimum qualifications:

  • M.S. in pharmacology, molecular biology, biology or a closely related field
  • 5 years of experience

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Broad technical experience in biochemistry and cell and molecular biology with the ability to implement appropriate instrumentation, coordinate and implement meticulous experiments, interpret and communicate data output, and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Proven expertise in building disease-relevant cellular assays for metabolic disorders using immortalized and/or primary human and animal cells, including iPSCs, coculture and/or organoid culture systems.
  • Experience with CRISPR gene editing In vitro model systems
  • Support the implementation of new assay technologies
  • Experience with imaging techniques and/or flow cytometry
  • Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams and projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sustained tendency for collaboration
  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting data in a team environment
  • Demonstrate initiative and appropriate risk-taking
  • Ability to prioritize multiple activities and manage ambiguity
