Mission Graduates is a nonprofit organization that increases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco's Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education. We work towards fulfilling our mission through a wide range of afterschool support services that serve over 4,800 children, youth, and families each year.  Our vision is to transform the culture of our neighborhood so that college becomes the expectation for Mission families, rather than the exception. 

Program Summary:Impact Gen is a 10-week-long career readiness program offered in the Fall and in the Spring to all current college students and college graduates. Also, students get the opportunity to work for 8-weeks with a mentor in their desired career. In addition to the cohort model, Impact Gen offers the Summer Bootcamp which could be a one-time company tour and career as an opportunity for career exposure and networking building; offered to all college students and graduates. Furthermore, all college students and alumni have access to one-on-one career/higher education coaching. 

Position Overview : The Workforce Assistant position requires a self-motivated individual who is familiar with working with first-generation young professionals. Most of the Mission Graduate students are Spanish speakers, therefore, Spanish is a plus. This is a great opportunity for someone who believes in Higher Education as a means to break cycles of poverty, everyone should have the right to higher education, and who wants to gain experience in workforce facilitation and coaching. The Workforce Assistant will work closely with the Workforce Development Director to mainly support college students in the Impact Gen program and work with volunteers. The Workforce Assistant's weekly work schedule is typically 11-7pm while Impact Gen days, and before or after it is 9-5pm. 

Key Responsibilities & Primary Duties
Direct Service (50%)
    • Assist in coordinating and/or leading student workshops, mentoring activities, and other special activities.
    • Support students looking for internships/fellowships/jobs
    • Provide resources for students who demonstrate the need for emotional and academic support.
    • Assist Workforce Director during program meetings, workshops, and events Intentional relationship building with youth, volunteers, and community partners
    • Assist in collecting and contacting students when updating the student tracker/database
    • Work directly with volunteers (mentors/workshop presenters/career panelists/mock interviewers)
    • Attend all Impact Gen events, workshops, and panels
Administrative (50%)
    • Send reminder emails/calls/text messages to students about upcoming deadlines, meetings, activities, internships, etc.
    • Assist in communicating with and scheduling volunteers when needed
    • Assist in photographing events and posting on social media
    • Assist with program data tracking spreadsheets, collect student grades and financial aid information
    • Data entry of new student information into SalesForce and other tracking spreadsheetsAssist with new student orientation, logistics, etc
    • Assist Program Director during program meetings, workshops, and events Help prepare agenda and materials for workshops and program events 
    • Help translate documents when needed
    • Assist with the interpretation and facilitation of program meetings when applicable
    • Manage the online internship/job database and share it with current MG students
Required Qualifications
    • Bilingual Spanish is a plus
    • Familiarity with college access challenges that are specific to first-generation college students
    • Proven ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual orientation backgrounds
    • Familiarity with Google Suite and Zoom
    • Fingerprint mandatory before internship
