In this role you will consult with clients about family-based immigration matters, prepare various immigration petitions and applications, including I-130, adjustment of status/permanent residence, consular processing, naturalization, I-601 waivers and other immigration filings. You will also attend USCIS interviews and may attend immigration court hearings and supervise paralegals.
Responsibilities:
- Communicates with clients, employees, and others to answer legal questions, or explain information, and address issues or complaints. Advises clients during the consultation and throughout the case and prepares applications for citizenship, permanent residence, employment authorization documents and a variety of immigration related filings.
- Interprets law and provides advice on immigration, citizenship and family immigration issues, political asylum, humanitarian parole, U visa, VAWA, DACA, etc. to secure individual visas and U.S. permanent residence.
- Represents clients in various family-based and individual petitions, including I-130, adjustment of status, consular processing, I-601 waivers, asylum, and citizenship applications.
- Maintains accurate record keeping of all customer files and ensures compliance.
- Achieves a high success rate for full caseloads, including submission of complex RFE and NOID responses.
- May represent clients in immigration proceedings in U.S. Immigration Courts. Manages highly demanding and detail-oriented immigration litigation process as both a leader and member of legal team.
- Drafts motions, waivers, applications, request for evidence replies, and appeals to USCIS, EOIR and BIA.
- Supervise paralegals working on cases and devise case strategy, provide guidance to paralegals, review paralegal work on forms and throughout the case. Ensure paralegals perform with detail and accuracy.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A J.D. degree and an active member in good standing of the State Bar. - Required.
- Minimum 3 years experience of in-depth family-based immigration- Required
- Possess a thorough understanding various family-based immigrant visa petitions and consular processing. - Required
- Bilingual in both English and Spanish - Highly Preferred
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common internal and external documents, as well as have a good understanding of legal jargon. Ability to respond to emails, written communications, and quality legal research a must. Ability to interact clearly and effectively, in both written and oral communication, with coworkers, clients, and management.
- Proficient in personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, etc. This role requires an intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- NOT required to track time/billables on each task.
