General:
- Gain approval for, track, and engage in activities that meet the 1% for Social Change requirement.
- Proactively maintain yearly training requirements.
- Be present for and appropriately participate in YWCA and ILS specific meetings as required.
- Incorporate YWCA's commitment to social justice by understanding how racism, sexism, classism and other oppressions intersect and are embedded in institutions and be willing to have ongoing trainings regarding these issues as appropriate.
Program Specific:
- Utilize empowerment-based advocacy while working with ILS youth one-on-one and in a group setting to assist them with creating personal life goals related to housing, education and employment.
- Represent ILS and IYHP at appropriate housing/homeless meetings in the community.
- Build and maintain relationships with property management, landlords, and other community resources.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with ILS and IYHP participants, social workers, foster parents, biological parents, and other involved parties to ensure each ILS and IYHP participant is provided the best possible support and guidance.
- Enter data for housing and shelter program into Homeless Information Management System (HMIS).
- Manage program budget and ensure timely payments for rent and utility assistance.
- In partnership with ILS Program Director and staff facilitate Rent Well and Financial Beginnings classes for participants.
- Assure that participants, staff, volunteers and community partners are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnic background, gender or socioeconomic background.
- Work in conjunction with the ILS Program Director to build curriculum, plan, and facilitate group meetings.
- Engage in outreach activities in conjunction with the ILS Program Director as appropriate and needed.
- Respond to questions and concerns from participants, co-workers, supervisor, and community partners as appropriate, in a timely fashion, and in a manner that supports the mission and core values of the program and organization.
- Hold active and up to date driver's license and auto insurance in order to provide transportation to participants.
- Establish and maintain a record of impeccable dependability with regards to punctuality, following call- out procedures, and adhering to the policies, practices, and guidelines set by the organization and ILS.
Maintain an active case-load which includes, but is not necessarily limited to:
- Meeting with IYHP and ILS participants on a pre-scheduled or walk-in schedule.
- Providing relevant resources and information to the participants.
- Documenting program-related activity in participant files.
- Inputting youth activity into the National Youth in Transition Database (NYTD) as required by contracts, grants, and program procedures.
Requirements
Relatededucation: B.A./B.S. in social work or closely allied field such as sociology or psychology or equivalent experience
Relatedexperience:
- At least six months of experience working with youth ages 15-23 in a social services setting.
- At least three months experience with the foster care system and foster youth advocacy.
- At least three months working in housing or with youth experiencing homelessness.
- Hold active and up to date driver's license and auto insurance in order to commute throughout Clark County to fulfill job responsibilities.
Demonstrated passion for the work: familiar with the barriers facing youth in foster care and committed to supporting each youth's efforts to overcome those barriers.
Ability to provide superior service: use active listening skills during initial and subsequent face-to- face and over the phone conversations to effectively assess and problem solve conflicts facing the youth population.
Ability to empower: consistently convey an open, respectful, and solution-oriented approach to addressing challenges, completing work tasks, and provide positive and constructive feedback to internal and external persons.
Ability to maintain strong boundaries: maintain strong personal/professional boundaries at all times to make sure that work is spent supporting the participants and furthering the mission of the program and organization.
Abilitytoadapt: the only constant is change - expecting and being open to change is a critical part of this position and is a necessary component of being in a service-oriented field.
Strong time management skills: maintain strong time management skills in order to complete documentation and other tasks by their assigned deadline while simultaneously providing advocacy to a caseload of participants.
Strong problem-solving skills: resourceful and able to resolve challenges while knowing when it's time to stop and ask questions or seek additional guidance.
Strongtechnologicalskills: effectively use common software programs (like MS Office, Excel, and PowerPoint) to fulfill position related expectations.
Strongsoft-skills: with little to no prompting, adapt work and communication style to mitigate and/or de-escalate crisis, and to best support our participants.
