Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Tech
Duties:
  • Under the supervision of a qualified physician/medical provider, administers Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments to patients in a safe and effective manner, as per the provider’s orders.
  • Operates and maintains hyperbaric chamber and associated systems and equipment as prescribed by a hyperbaric physician.
  • Monitors patients in the chamber and records patient conditions per established guidelines.
  • Ensures patient comfort and addresses any patient concerns.
  • Reports any unusual occurrences to the supervising physician as soon as possible to ensure the highest level of patient safety.
  • Prepares patients receiving Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy. This includes pre and post dive assessments to assure that both physical environment, equipment and patient related risk factors are eliminated or controlled before and during the patient’s treatment (in coordination with the medical team).
  • Conducts patient orientation sessions to new patients and their personal support system. Provides on-going patient education as necessary to maintain patient safety.
  • Keeps patient treatment records, collects appropriate data, and documents in the EMR, as required.
  • Sets up and operates all equipment relating to HBOT including, but not limited to:
    - Patient monitoring: blood sugar testing, blood pressure monitoring, heart rate, visualization of tympanic membranes, lung auscultation, appropriate hyperbaric-approved clothing and hygiene practices, patient grounding.
    - Maintains operating, maintenance, and safety logs on hyperbaric equipment.
    - Chamber monitoring: Daily, monthly, yearly safety checks and equipment monitoring (chamber grounding, compression/decompression times, function of dials, maintenance of masks and air break equipment)
    - Operates the hyperbaric chambers according to training and established protocols. This includes an assessment of all aspects of the treatment (pre/post dive, compression and decompression) and appropriately intervening, when necessary, as outlined in established protocols.
    - Maintains knowledge in hyperbaric and pressurized gas equipment/systems and troubleshooting skills.- Institutes emergency measures in the unlikely event of an adverse reaction as outlined in established protocols.
    - Performs routine cleaning per protocols of the hyperbaric chamber and ancillary equipment to prevent the transmission of infection and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
  • Monitors and requests the ordering of all inventory items in advance of depletion.
  • Takes an active part in keeping the center clean, organized, and professional in appearance.
  • Provides “in-services” to foster educational development of Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy to groups deemed appropriate.
  • Provides orientation/training to new HBO personnel or other clinic staff.
  • Maintains the standards set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and maintains all health and safety policies, procedures, and provisions established by the center.
  • Serves as a “tender” inside the multi-place chamber on a rotating basis with other technologists to monitor and assist patients who are undergoing HBOT.
  • Communicates with various insurance companies to obtain authorizations for treatments, when necessary.
  • Willing and able to cross-train for other team members to assist in smooth, uninterrupted clinic function.
  • Assists in staffing other USWC clinics as needed for the business needs of the organization.
  • Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Education required for the discipline in which a certification or license is held (i.e., EMT, CNA, RT, RN, LVN, etc.)
  • Experience in one or more of the following disciplines, preferred: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, EMT/Paramedic, CNA, Corpsman (Military), Medical Assistant, Physical Therapy, nursing.
  • Completion of a course in Hyperbaric Medicine in compliance through the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) or National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) Hyperbaric Medicine Training Course (This course may be completed after hire)
  • Certification in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (ACHM, CHT, or CHS), preferred
  • American Heart Association health care provider BLS Certification
  • Due to nature of business and role, Covid-19 vaccination or an approved exemption is required
  • Must be able to be pressurized on a daily basis. Must be medically cleared to tolerate pressurization by a physician who is well-versed in hyperbaric medicine (to be provided by USWC upon hire).

**$5k sign-on bonus for eligible candidates; see criteria below**

  • 2 years' experience in HBOT
  • Must have CHT or CHS, or be eligible for exam
  • If not already certified, must achieve certification within 90 days of hire
