JOB TITLE: Hydrogeologist
DEPARTMENT: Technical Services
LOCATION: Robinson Mine - Ruth, NV
POSITION REPORTS TO: Senior Hydrogeologist

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Hydrogeologist is responsible for understanding the groundwater regime at the mine, managing the mine dewatering program, including the drilling programs. Work closely with and support the Engineering, Mine Operations, Geotechnical, and Environmental Departments. The Hydrogeologist interfaces with state agencies and works under the minimal direction of the Chief Geologist.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
  • Responsible for the groundwater monitoring network to support the dewatering program and for the development of effective task plans to complete work on time and within budget.
  • Plan, formulate, and conduct hydrogeological field investigations in accordance with project objectives and requirements that include drilling oversight, well design, well installation, geophysical logging, aquifer testing, pump tests, data analysis and interpretation, and pumping equipment specification/selection.
  • Assist in the development of annual scope and budgets for drilling programs.
  • Assist in the preparation of AFE's (Authorization for Expenditure) documents, evaluation of responses, selection of contractors, and contract agreement implementation.
  • Assist the preparation of project scopes for the bidding process.
  • Establish effective working relationships with other department personnel and contractors.
  • Responsible for the effective management of own time and effort in accordance with project priorities and objectives.
  • Convey results and findings by means of oral discussions and presentations.
  • Update weekly and monthly reports regarding dewatering projects.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of KGHM.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
  • Bachelor's degree in hydrogeology or related fields (geology, hydrology, hydraulic engineering).
  • One to three years of work experience in mine dewatering.
  • A valid Driver's License.
  • Effective safety performance.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
  • Master's degree in hydrogeology or related fields (geology, hydrology, hydraulic engineering).
  • Three to five years of work experience in mine dewatering.
  • Previous experience managing drilling programs.
  • Previous experience developing large scale pumping systems.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimum supervision.
  • Working knowledge of MinePlan is preferable.
  • Working knowledge of InSitu and Geokon instrumentation preferable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills with technical writing experience.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to operate light vehicles.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • N/A

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Contractor oversight may be necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Medium - Exerting 20 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly. Physical demand requirements are greater than that required for Light Work.
