The Critical Minerals business line of SLB New Energy maximizes the value of mineral resources through an innovative, sustainable DLE (Direct Lithium Extraction) process that outputs battery-grade lithium material. Preserving the environment while guaranteeing best-in-class economical lithium recovery and refinement is key to sustainable and responsible lithium production.


We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Hydrogeologist with a strong academic background to join SLB New Energy. Candidates should show deep understanding of fundamental geology in addition to the distribution, flow, and quality of water underground. Hydrogeologists interpret technical data and information from maps and historical documents to build a conceptual model of groundwater flow and quality. they also design and complete investigations, which may include environmental measurement and sampling, using modelling techniques, their predictions about future trends and impacts on groundwater flow and quality.


Roles and Responsabilities:

  • apply a knowledge of fundamental geology to develop an understanding of how rock types and structure in an area impact on groundwater occurrence and movement.
  • understand and interpret maps, geographical data, historical evidence, and models to build up a picture of the groundwater regime and/or land contamination, often based on incomplete information.
  • Build models for groundwater flow, chemistry, and temperature according to geological formations, surface water flow and man-made influence.
  • undertake field work and site visits for investigative and monitoring purposes.
  • design and commission boreholes, and sample and measure groundwater and surface water.
  • undertake environment impact assessments of groundwater abstraction and management activities.
  • analyze collected information, to assess and predict the impact of activities on groundwater quality and resource availability.
  • ensure compliance with environmental legislation and keep up to date with technological and legislative developments.
  • write reports for clients, which can be understood by people who don't necessarily have a technical background.
  • answer technical queries and provide advice to clients and the public in writing and over the telephone.
  • work within health and safety guidelines.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, ideally hydrogeology, from an accredited university is required, master’s degree of PhD preferred.
  • This a junior position for recent graduates / post-graduates with less than 3 years of industry experience.
  • Previous experience or academic studies related to hydrogeology projects is a plus.
  • Previous experience related to groundwater modeling and water quality with activities of mining, chemical plant and wastewater plants is a plus.
  • Familiarity with groundwater flow modeling software.
  • Ability work with a cross-functional team to support the critical minerals projects.
  • strong analytical mindset and an ability to acquire domain knowledge quickly.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as required to fulfill project and business needs.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.
