Description
Lee County is pleased to announce an exciting new position within our Facilities Construction and Management Department. We are seeking a motivated, high-energy, team worker to serve in the role of Tradesworker (HVAC). This is an entry-level position that performs repairs and preventative maintenance on commercial and industrial HVAC equipment at all Lee County facilities.
This position performs preventative maintenance (PM) on HVAC equipment. This individual performs technical work in preventative maintenance of heating, air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration (HVAC) related equipment for the purpose of providing proper indoor environmental air quality.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Duties include but are not limited to trouble shooting, diagnostic and repairs of malfunctioning HVAC equipment as well as assisting in replacement and or installing a new system.
  • In addition perform ductwork repairs/replacements.
  • Will be expected to do some plumbing and electrical work as needed.
  • Preventative maintenance performance are checking, sizing, changing air filters, inspecting, cleaning and sanitizing HVACR equipment, including condensation drain pan, drain line, HVACR condenser unit coil, air handler unit and coil.
  • Pulling and cleaning the blower wheel and housing, checking, changing/adjusting HVACR equipment belts, checking operation of pump/motors, greasing pumps, bearing, lubricating dampers, checking and or replacements on motors, contractors, capacitors, t-stat fuse, transformers, overflow switch, condensation pump, dehumidifiers, reheat coils, fresh air make up units providing deep cleaning and removal of contaminants that may hinder the air quality, repair replace armaflex, check the operation of exhaust fan, clean chiller yards, coils and chiller water circulation socks and maintains clean and organized mechanical rooms.
  • Have basic knowledge of all types of equipment the range from mini split 20 ton units.
  • These performance are needed for the extended service lifetime of the HVACR equipment.
  • Authorize to take corrective action and or notify supervisor to clear possible safety hazards outside of their normal work performance.
  • Incumbent performs PMs and minor repairs to HVAC equipment.
  • Assists with servicing HVAC units.
  • Prepares and submits required paperwork on a daily basis.
  • Maintains truck inventory.
  • Requires possession of a type 1 and type II refrigerant recovery license.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, dig and crawl in tight spaces, reach, stoop, squat, and work outside during all seasons in extreme temperatures.

Education, Experience, Licensing
  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and six months of HVAC experience or closely related experience.
  • Must possess an EPA Section 608 Type II Refrigerant Certification or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire or employment will end.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Will be required to undergo a fingerprint-based NCIC background check and must be able to obtain a security clearance from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and will be required to undergo a "fingerprint-based" criminal background check and must be able to obtain security clearance from the State's Attorney Office in addition to the standard Consumer Report based background check that is required for all conditional offers of employment.

Supplemental Information
  • The work days and hours are Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Ability to demonstrate skill in operating small machinery and/or hand tools.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding, dig and crawl in tight spaces, reach, stoop, squat, and work outside during all seasons in extreme temperatures and able to lift up to 60 lbs.
