- Three years of journey-level experience in troubleshooting and repair of commercial/industrial air conditioning systems
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completing an apprenticeship program or vocational education in HVAC may substitute for one year of the experience requirement
- Must complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and MCSO background investigation and TOC certification to access County detention facilities
- EPA certification required upon hire
- Five years of experience troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems within an institutional, industrial, or heavy commercial environment
- Experience with Maximo or related project management software products
- Troubleshoot, repair, install, and replace: air dryers, computer room A/C, makeup air units, split package A/C & HP, VAV, VFD, pumps, chillers, air handlers, cooling towers, air wash systems, evaporative coolers, steam and hot water boilers, air compressors, exhaust fans, and gas furnaces
- Troubleshoot, monitor, operate, and repair computerized and pneumatic facilities automation controls, negative pressure rooms, ductwork and dampers, generator and refrigerant alarms
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on the following systems: air conditioners, heat pumps, gas furnaces, pumps, steam, and hot water boilers, cooling towers, air wash systems, evaporative coolers, air compressors, exhaust fans, blowers, VAV and VFDs, computer room A/C, air dryers; to include: water treatment, air-water filters, balancing, alignment, inspection and measurement and cleaning of above systems
- Respond to repair and service calls and emergency work orders, and maintain verbal communications with clients, field technicians, and management staff on emergency calls; monitor and control temperatures utilizing the Facilities Automation System computer
- Operate computers and mobile devices for time management, inventory, work assignments, and other related functions

- The physical environment requires work to be performed both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Must be able to function independently or in a team working environment and interact professionally with members of the public, vendors, coworkers, and supervisors. Position requires one to regularly position self to repair, remodel, troubleshoot, and maintain various components used by the County, including ascending and descending ladders, climbing stairs, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping including fine manipulation. Must be able to lift arms above shoulders, lifting/deadlifting (floor to waist) of up to 50 pounds. Must be able to hear, see, and read. Work assignments are performed under some temperature extremes, confined areas, high noise levels, dim lighting, dust or smoke, potential contagious diseases, and traumatic subject matter. Exposure to various forms of hazardous energy sources relating to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Must be capable of using multiple forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) to fulfill the requirements of the position. This position may require a rotating on-call or standby schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position may require some overtime and weekends for special program events. Working environments include adult and juvenile detention facilities, medical facilities, public health, forensics, courts, and related justice facilities.
