The Prince William Department of Social Services staff of over 480, serve the community through adult and child-welfare programs, public benefits distribution, and homeless prevention services. We annually serve over 100,000 people with the goal of creating self-sufficiency and economic stability. ABOUT THIS ROLE:
The Intake Team is a highly trained group who receive reports of abuse, neglect or exploitation and screen them to determine what further investigation is required. The incumbent in this role must be able to integrate information from multiple sources and write reports that are accurate, concise and professional. Staff on the Intake team must possess strong communication skills and be able to listen carefully, ask appropriate questions, provide education, and clearly communicate with callers in the investigation process. The Human Services Caseworker will enter data into several on-line reporting systems: OASIS, ASAPS and Peer Place. All this must be done in a timely manner and within the required response guidelines. When not working on the intake line, staff will participate in educating the community's mandated reporters about their responsibilities to report abuse or neglect.
You will need knowledge of local, state and federal child and adult welfare policies and practices and the ability to correctly interpret policy. Lastly, you will need excellent skills in researching, following up on unanswered questions, and making sure they have the "whole picture" before forming conclusions.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in the Human Services field; or bachelor's degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two years appropriate and related experience in a human
services related area.
PREFERENCES:
  • Experience assessing family needs and coordinating appropriate services.
  • Experience educating the community's mandated reporters about their responsibilities to report abuse or neglect.
  • Experience working with crisis intervention with clients, preferably in child and/or adult welfare work.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
37.5 hours per week M-F. This position may require workers to work after hours as needed and requires flexibility to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All DSS staff members are required to provide emergency Human Services work in the event of an emergency or community disaster. Must pass local, state and federal background checks and have a valid driver's license.
ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $69,186.00 - $95,579.50 Annually
