This position is eligible for partial remote work. To be eligible for remote work, the selected individual must have access to reliable, high-speed internet service. There is an expectation that the incumbent will attend regular in-person meetings in our downtown Madison office, located just off of the Capitol Square, at 17 South Fairchild Street. Please note that while we do not have our own parking facility, there are numerous paid public parking locations nearby, as well as multiple public transit options. For workdays spent in the office, our staff enjoy a casual atmosphere.

Where We're Located: SPD is located just off of the Capitol Square of award-winning Madison, Wisconsin, at 17 South Fairchild Street. We are within easy walking distance of many shopping and dining options, a weekly farmer's market , the State Capitol Building , and two beautiful lakes with walking & biking paths. This Project Position will begin in January 2024, and has been authorized until December 31, 2024. Project positions are eligible for benefits, including health insurance, but the incumbent does not attain permanent civil service status. Candidates chosen for these Project Positions may be considered for permanent positions in the near future if any permanent positions become available.
Position Summary
This position plays a crucial role in fostering the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts of the State Public Defender's office (SPD) through active collaboration with stakeholders, policy auditing and evaluation, data analysis, and coordinating initiatives designed to further enhance the SPD's commitment to these principles.
Responsibilities include auditing HR and agency programs, coordinating DEI committees and sub-committees, and the review and evaluation of operational guidelines, policies and documentation to ensure adherence to the agency's DEI Strategic Plan as well as Affirmative Action (AA) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations. This position will analyze demographic and turnover data, information from exit/stay interviews, as well as other sources to assist in ensuring that SPD continues to be an employer of choice.
In addition, this position will assist with the intake and processing of Respectful Workplace complaints, help with the coordination of Workplace Accommodation requests, and contribute to investigations concerning harassment and discrimination. The incumbent will also be expected to assist other HR Specialists with processing recruitments and other administrative tasks within the Human Resources office.

Salary Information
The starting salary for the Human Resources Specialist-Senior will be between $33.00 and $36.80 per hour and is in pay schedule-range (81-03). Salary will depend on experience and qualifications and will be based on rules that apply in the current compensation plan.
Permanent classified state employees who are eligible for consideration (transfer, voluntary demotion, or reinstatement) for a position assigned to the stated pay range or counter-part pay range, should complete the application process as described above by the stated deadline.
Final selected candidates may be eligible for moving expense reimbursement to relocate to the place of employment.

- Human Resources and/or DEI experience within the public sector (i.e., Municipal, County, State, Federal or Higher Education)
- Project Management experience
