Summary/Objective
The Human Resources Specialist assists with the daily operations of the Human Resources Department, including a variety of HR support functions including assisting with the onboarding process, HR office administration, HR activities and events, assist with recruiting, and employee retention and engagement techniques across departments. This position works closely with the VP of Human Resources and involves regular communication with Orlando Science Center team members to ensure consistency within company policies.
Essential Functions
· Oversees, researches, develops, and implements effective recruitment plans for open positions to identify quality candidates.
· Manages the onboarding process; including applicant communication, scheduling and coordinating the new hire process, prepares supplies and welcome packets, creates and maintains all new hire documents, and maintaining I-9 compliance.
· Maintains personnel files, both digital and printed, ensuring that records are updated and accurate.
· Manages sensitive and confidential data such as employee benefits, 90-day check in meetings, exit interviews, organizational changes, planning and protecting the security of employee information, data, and files.
· Establishes consistent job descriptions by collaborating with all levels of management to comply with company policies.
· Screens applications, processes reference checks, and maintains regular communication with hiring managers to route successful candidates to all departments.
· Coordinates anniversary awards and assists with employee recognition events.
· Updates organizational chart and management directory.
· Oversees the background check process.
· Assist with HR projects as assigned, including data entry, reconciliation, and reporting, filing, and correspondence.
· Understands the employee handbook and how it can be applied to employment procedures and policies.
· Answers routine questions from employees.
· Works closely with Director of Volunteers & Engagement and VP of Human Resources to develop training programs for employees.
· Routinely participates in the interview process throughout all levels of the organization.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or Communications or equivalent work experience preferred.
2. Experience: Two years of Human Resources or related management experience required. Proficient in all Microsoft Products.

Supervisory Responsibility
· This position may oversee an HR Coordinator.

Expected Hours of Work & Travel
· This position is full time and primarily works Monday – Friday, rare weekend/night work required.
· Travel throughout the Central Florida area may be required to attend conferences/trainings.
· Travel throughout the Central Florida area will be required to pick up supplies and program materials.
Telecommuting
This position is required to be onsite 80% of the time.
