Job Title- Guidance Counselor

Reports to - Building Principal

Salary

Minimum base salary of $45,900 (Master’s degree and no previous experience) for a 190-day contract

  • Salary will be determined based on education and specific counseling experience–up to 10 years or with Board approval.

Extended Contract Requirement

Salary is based on a 190-day contract. This position will require additional contract days, not to exceed ten (10) days. A supplemental contract will be provided for the additional days and paid at a per diem rate. (Administration will determine the number of additional days required.)

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the building principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district and state-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a ?exible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, families, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with BOEE endorsement 173-Professional School Counselor

  • Successful completion of criminal background investigation

  • Preferred experience or additional training in social and emotional mental health

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Has the ability to work with multiple systems in a building (Concurrent Enrollment, MTSS, Advanced Placement, College and Career Readiness, Infinite Campus Student Information System)

  • Working knowledge on implementing Mental Health supports and strategies for all levels of students.

  • Has the ability to collaborate with multiple teams (Counseling Team, Student Service Team, Parent team, Student team, and staff team)

  • Encourages pupils to think independently, express original ideas, and work independently.

  • Creates learning opportunities aligned with district standards; allows students to transfer their learning to real-life applications.

  • Provides opportunities for students to develop skills as collaborative workers and to become effective communicators.

  • Design learning activities that utilize technology in a meaningful way.

  • Conducts ongoing needs assessment of students and creates and differentiates instruction to meet individual student’s needs.

  • Provides meaningful feedback to students within a multi-tiered system of support.

  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings or by conducting research.

  • Organizes and maintains accurate records, grades, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as district procedures and applicable laws require.

  • Encourages parental/family involvement in student education and ensures effective communication with students and parents/families.

  • Works with colleges and universities regarding student academic requirements, scholarships and other opportunities. Communicates those opportunities with students and families.

  • Organizes and provides leadership for student organizations, ceremonies, and parent engagement nights (FAFSA, Mental Health, Leader In Me, etc.)

  • Supervises students in activities outside the classroom during the school day, including school transportation activities.

  • Administers standardized assessments in accordance with district testing policies.

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other district office administrators designated by the superintendent.

The PCM Community School District serves the communities of Prairie City, Monroe, and Reasnor. We are located in south central Iowa, within close proximity to the Des Moines Metro area.
