Job Summary
The HR Technician position performs advanced technical work in assisting professional HR staff with the entire scope of personnel management activities. In addition, this position provides superior customer service to all clientele of the university. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manages the overall Human Resources Office, including communication (phone, email, mail) and serves as the first point of contact for the department by responding to routine questions on Minnesota State union contracts & personnel plans. This position orders supplies, coordinates vendor appointments, and assists with facilitation of university event planning, in addition to providing work direction to HR student workers.
  • Provides payroll coordination by assisting employees with payroll questions (i.e. timesheets, tax form communication). This role assists in the preparation of processing shared employee agreements and other forms of additional compensation.
  • Facilitates orientation, onboarding, and serves as the main point of contact for new employees within their assigned portfolio. In addition, the HR Technician will provide support for the hiring process for emergency and temporary employees within their assigned portfolio.
  • Provides organizational and records maintenance by maintaining and updating the university/departmental organizational charts, online employee directory, HR webpages, seniority rosters, personnel files, etc. This position is also responsible for completing employment verification and Public Service Loan Forgiveness forms.
  • Other special projects or backup support as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Intermediate knowledge of Federal and MN State statutes and laws relating to employment or an equivalent entity.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Minnesota Management & Budet (MMB) and Minnesota State's policies and procedures or an equivalent entity.
  • Strong customer service and human relations skills sufficient to interact with courtesy, respect, and professionalism with individuals of varying educational levels and diverse backgrounds to create a positive impression and experience working with the Human Resources office.
  • English speaking, writing and reading skills sufficient to understand and carry out verbal and written directions, as well as communicate, both orally and in writing, with various individuals contacting the Human Resources office.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills sufficient to oversee and direct the workflow of the front office area.
  • Demonstrated confidence and problem-solving skills sufficient to independently and efficiently triage work in a fast- paced, high volume environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity in a discreet manner ensuring that information is protected, and confidentiality is not breached.
  • Typing and word processing skills sufficient to create and proofread documents.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of human resources experience processing payroll or HR transactions or administering employee benefit programs or similar work.
  • An Associates degree or coursework in the field of Human Resources Management /HR Administration and/or HRIS or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ongoing professional HR development.
