Job Description

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

The Associate Investigator will be responsible for managing all human resources requisitions. This includes liaising with Procurement, Budget, Material Logistics, Audits, and Accounts to meet all HR needs. Apart from regular supplies purchasing, the selected person will handle all HR projects, including liaising with IT for DataEase and the HR Tracking System.
The responsibilities of this role are diverse and may include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead the Human Resources Records project with the Department of Records & Information
  • Services, ensuring that we follow city, state, and federal laws regarding HR-record retention.
  • Will be the P-Card Holder and HR Requisition, having access to SpendMap and PASSPort, and liaising with vendors, Procurement, Budget, Material Logistics, and Audits & Accounts appropriately.
  • Quarterly reporting to Mayor’s Office of Ethnic & Community Media, ensuring that we meet our mandates for recruitment advertisements.
  • Serve as the agency security officer for citywide HR systems, including NYCAPS, CHRMS, and PMS. Also, serving as Ad Hoc user for CHRMS.
  • Review, edit, and make enhancements to HR records, documents, procedures, ensuring that the intranet is updated, and all pertinent HR documents are easily accessible to employees.
  • Monitor LinkedIn Training and assist with building out OCME-HR Training.
  • Perform general administrative tasks to support the Human Resources Unit, including supporting the three HR teams on initiatives and special projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications


1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience as an investigator evaluating credit worthiness, searching for assets, verifying information concerning education, experience, and other personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment, or performing investigations involving the research, compilation and/or location of evidence or information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal, corrupt, unlawful or unethical nature; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
