Summary
Since 1981 UCI Medical Affiliates, part of the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina family, has provided nonmedical management and administrative services for freestanding medical centers, including urgent care centers and physical therapy clinics throughout South Carolina.
We are currently searching for a Director of Human Resources to join our leadership team. Description
As a member of the leadership team, you will lead a team of Human Resources professionals to design, deliver, and execute a short- and long-term strategy for UCI's human capital in support of the organization's mission and vision. With foundational experience in employment law, compliance, and generalist responsibilities, this position needs a confident decision maker who will lead all HR functions including employee relations, recruitment, compensation, benefits, and engagement.. With nearly 80 centers across the state, a critical component of success in this role is site visits and employee engagement.

Logistics: this is an on-site position located in our office in downtown Columbia, SC.
What You'll Do:
HR Department Leadership
  • Create departmental plans, goals, mission, policies, procedures, and budget.
  • Selection, training, monitoring, and evaluation of HR departmental staff.
  • Leads and manages the HR Team including Talent Acquisition & Development, Benefits, and HRIS.

Strategic Direction & Leadership
  • Plans, develops, implements, and administers programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align staff with the strategic goals of the company.
  • In conjunction with Center Operations and Medical Office leadership, develops/implements human resources plan for clinics including recruitment, selection, promotion/transfer, orientation, compensation administration, and labor relations in collaboration with management team.
  • Educates/advises administrative and clinical managers on personnel issues including termination, labor disputes, and morale.
  • Ensures human resources objectives and goals are in alignment with accrediting bodies (UCA - Urgent Care Association).

Employee Relations
  • Responsible for responding to and oversight of employee relations matters and investigations.
  • Work closely with employees and management on resolving employee relations issues across all business units to include all medical sites

Employee Engagement
  • Practices open-door policy to encourage employees to discuss workplace concerns or opportunities to address improvements.
  • Facilitates peer-to-peer and employee-manager discussion/mediations.
  • Recommends and facilitates employee recognition efforts and events.

Compliance
  • Maintains/monitors records of worker's compensation, equal employment opportunity (EEO), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), unemployment, and other employee claims. Reviews exit interview data. Recommends changes to policy and training to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with legislative reporting requirements.
  • Generates reports from databases to disseminate information to internal departments and external entities.
  • Assists with interim and annual audits.
  • Is an active participate on the Corporate Compliance Committee.

Total Rewards
  • Oversees the conduct of compensation surveys and recommends changes to ensure the company remains competitive with market rates for wages/salaries and benefits as well as maintaining internal equity.
  • Performs reconciliations of payroll information and accounting information.
  • Oversees annual open enrollment process
  • Leads the annual performance management process

To Qualify for This Position, You'll Need:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 8 years Human Resources, Audit/Compliance, Accounting/Payroll, Education/Training, or other job-related experience
  • 5 years management experience or equivalent military experience in grade E4 or above. (may be concurrent)

We Prefer That You Have:
  • Master's in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Experience in the health care industry
  • Preferred Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of federal/state laws pertaining to employment (Title VII, ADA, ADEA, etc.). Knowledge of wage and hour and related areas. Knowledge of government regulations pertaining to EEO/AAP plans administration. Knowledge of government regulations pertaining to payroll/taxes. Knowledge of government regulations pertaining to retirement/benefit administration.
  • Preferred Licenses and Certificates: Professional designation in Human Resources such as CMA, CPA, CEBS, PHR, SPHR, CCP, CBP, DDI, or ASTD.
