Position Summary
The HR Business Partner works with managers and employees of all levels across a geographically dispersed organization to proactively support the implementation and delivery of HR processes, programs, and best practices. This position acts as a role model and performs both tactical and strategic functions, supporting the HR team to achieve outcomes by optimizing the whole HR function.
General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drives core HR processes of the business unit, including recruitment and pre-employment requirements, new employee orientation, employee relations, performance management, training, organizational development, compensation, termination, HRIS functions and HR administration.
  • Identifies and escalates business risk related to HR practices.
  • Diligently pursues a broad and deep understanding of NGL business unit operations.
  • Vigorously adheres to, and educates managers on, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations; state, federal, and local employment laws; OFCCP applicant tracking requirements; the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and other employment-related regulations.
  • Applies knowledge of internal HR practices and various HR disciplines to advise employees and managers and to originate solutions to complex HR issues in a compliant manner.
  • Partners and develops strong working relationships with managers, business unit leaders, and HR teammates to recommend and develop plans for key HR initiatives.
  • Prepares job descriptions and evaluates jobs in accordance with the FLSA guidelines.
  • Coaches managers regarding employee relations issues and employee performance. Makes recommendations as to how to address performance issues; drafts disciplinary actions, termination notices, etc.
  • Produces HR reports and analytics for the business unit; tracks HR metrics and recommends improvements to overall HR practices.
  • Reviews payroll changes and inputs.
  • Conducts, or reviews results of, exit interviews and analyzes separation data to make recommendations based upon results.
  • Assists with the implementation of the employee performance management process.
  • Analyzes compensation and makes recommendations as assigned.
  • Acts as a resource for employees with questions regarding their confidential situations.
  • Participates in investigations as assigned.
  • Partners with hiring managers for workforce planning and recruiting, from sourcing to hiring. Adheres to Company requirements for applicant tracking and OFCCP compliance, and may assist in the creation of Affirmative Action plans.
  • Oversees leave of absence (LOA) cases, including FMLA, STD/LTD, and complex, multi-site worker's compensation issues in a compliant manner, consulting with the Benefits and Risk Management teams as necessary.
  • Identifies training needs of managers, employees, and the HR team and assists with the design and selection of training, both internal and external. Presents training as assigned.
  • Liaises with the Company's various HR teams (HRIS, Benefits, Payroll, and Compliance) as necessary to ensure effective and efficient customer service to employees.
  • Serves as a mentor for non-exempt HR employees, actively sharing HR knowledge and best practices. As needed, assists non-exempt HR team members in the performance of HR administrative tasks.
  • Responds to unemployment claims and represents the Company at unemployment hearings.
  • Verifies and maintains documentation and data processing of personnel activities in Workday, the HRIS platform. Oversees Workday data entry and audits employee data for accuracy. Troubleshoots Workday issues and tests the rollout of Workday changes and new modules.
  • Administers severance programs.
  • Responds to requests from auditors and prepares audit documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite is required.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth across the full spectrum of HR activities and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of employment law and government regulations related to HR.
  • Excellent technical skills including MS Office and knowledge of HRIS platforms, such as Workday.
  • Highly detail-oriented, with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks amid shifting priorities, while maintaining quality.
  • Ability to thrive in a high volume, dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with accurate and prompt responses to employees and managers.
  • Must be able to work on sensitive issues with discretion and a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Must be dependable with a stable work history.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and be flexible and willing to modify plans and behavior when necessary.
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary.
  • Ability to be a positive representative of the Company both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and customers.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.

Experience/Education:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in field/industry, is required.
  • A recognized certification in HR, such as PHR or SPHR, is a plus.
  • Experience working with remote employees preferred.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.

Travel:
Up to 25% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to field locations where environment may vary significantly.

  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, hand tools and small to medium-sized power tool use.
  • Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasionally exposed to non-toxic propane fumes or airborne particles.
  • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
This position is required to be performed at the work site during regularly scheduled hours. Physical presence at the work site is required.
