Description
The Housing Counselor provides information and guidance to individuals that will enable them to meet their housing goals. They are well versed in housing options and financial analysis. Housing Counselors must be solutions oriented and problem solvers who are understanding and non-judgmental. Work with potential homebuyers to help them prepare for the purchase of a home and the subsequent responsibilities of homeownership. Deliver counseling and coaching services to clients in our Housing Development Program. Be responsible for promoting financial services by increasing community and client awareness of the financial literacy services available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Counsel and interview clients with respect to their overall financial situation as it relates to home ownership, budgeting, debt reduction, credit re-building and education.
• Create a budget and a detailed action plan for all clients.
• Create and ensure completion of a client's file per organizational and HUD guidelines.
• Adhere to all guidelines related to the confidentiality of client records and information and requirements per the HUD Housing Counseling Handbook and National Industry Standards for Homebuyer Education and Counseling.
• Proactively manage workload, calendar, and client appointments to help meet the goals of the organization and serve the client effectively.
• Assist with facilitating education workshops, including scheduling, marketing, and procuring speakers.
• Build relationships with lenders, realtors, and other professionals to develop referral sources.
• Assists the Program Manager with special projects as assigned and other tasks deemed necessary to achieve overall goals and operate a successful program.
• Conduct community outreach to meet program goals.
• Keep HUD certification as a Housing Counselor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Preferable to have a Bachelor's degree in related field, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or Counseling.
• Minimum 6 months of experience providing Housing Counseling services
• Knowledge of HUD policies, procedures, state and federal regulations
• Knowledge to assemble, analyze, and report data and information in a clear, precise, and objective manner.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, public relations, and client interviewing skills
• High degree of organizational and time/people management ability
• HUD Certified Housing Counselor preferred but not needed.

• Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capacity.
• Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and time demands.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality around financial information.
• Can write and communicate well.
• Must have experience in technology-based office management and office support. Proficient in Microsoft Word; working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must be able to work well with various personalities within the Catholic Church and be comfortable around many levels of support within a large, complex, and diverse working environment. Ability to read and analyze routine correspondence and compose appropriate responses.
• Must have an excellent command of the English language.
• Fluency in a foreign language, emphasis on Spanish or Creole, is desired but not required.
• Ability to record and compose in minutes.
