Summary
Officer will be responsible for promoting a safe environment for guests and associates of the hotel, assisting in maintaining order, enforcing internal rules and regulations, and investigating and reporting incidents involving the loss of property, theft, personal injury, motor vehicle accidents, etc. that may result in claims against the hotel.
Responsibilities
- Watch for suspicious persons entering, exiting, or loitering around building.
- Report and document any unsafe working practices or conditions and recommend corrective action.
- Conduct investigations and create a detailed Incident Report for all incidents of theft, fraud, violence, property damage, personal injury, unlawful entry, trespassing and any other event that creates a disturbance on the premises or which may result in a claim against the organization.
- Observe persons on premises who abuse hotel facilities, intrude into restricted areas, disturb, or intrude upon the privacy of guests. Initiate action to remove such individual(s) from the premises.
- Thorough knowledge of hotel’s emergency fire, bomb threat, first aid, and tornado procedures and evacuation plan.
- Patrol all areas of the property including outside parking lots on a regular basis.
- Respond to any guest complaints and concerns and investigate to remedy the situation with a sense of urgency.
- Manage and report any unusual circumstances, safety violations, car break-ins, and other suspicious activity. Escort off property, if necessary.
- Document a concise security report on a daily log including incidents of theft, accidents, and safety violations.
- Maintain familiarity of all hotel disaster and emergency policies, procedures, and regulations; respond immediately to emergency alarms or calls for help, determine course of action, notify appropriate authorities, and perform first aid and CPR as needed.
- Assist in building evacuations during fire alarms and other emergencies.
- Enforce the 'No Solicitation Policy' on the property.
- Spend majority of shift on foot patrol, walking, climbing stairs of the interior
and perimeter of the hotel to observe and identify potential security and
safety risks or undesirable conditions. Requires verbal communication using
a two-way radio.
- Maintain order in the hotel, dealing with the welfare of guests, and assisting
with door lock problems.
- Coordinate expedient response to emergency conditions such as fire, fire or safety hazards and threats to life and/or property in a calm, rational and persuasive manner.
- Handle undesired conduct and potential violations of hotel policy as warranted for the security and safety of hotel guests, associates, patrons, and property.
- Answer security calls and respond in a timely manner based on priority.
- Monitor the security cameras for any unusual activity and in the case of
suspicious behavior.
- Memorize and monitor life safety system installed at property including
layout of entire building, alarm pull stations, location of fire extinguisher and
sprinklers.
- Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
- Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by management.
Skills
- Knowledge of working with security cameras systems
- CPR and first aid certified or willingness to be certified once hired
- Basic computer skills of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Ability to create a legible activity/incident/investigative report
- Capable of communicate with tact and professionalism when speaking to groups of people
Education / Experience
- Previous hotel experience is preferred
Knowledge/Skills
- Current CPR and First Aid certification; good communication skills, ability to recognize drug and alcohol abuse.
- Ability to communicate through a portable radio. May require a second language.
- Excellent hearing required to communicate with guests, employees, managers, use radio.
- Excellent vision required for emergencies, visual safety inspections.
- Excellent speech communication skills required to communicate with guests, employees, managers, use radio Excellent comprehension and literacy required to complete reports, logs.
Physical Demands
- A majority of the shift is spent on foot patrol, walking, climbing stairs of the interior and perimeter of the hotel to observe and identify potential security and safety risks.
- The position requires constant walking and standing.
- Frequent bending, head turning, reaching, handling, and grasping.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs.
- May be necessary to carry people or equipment in emergency situations.
- Bending/kneeling would be necessary in administering CPR and First Aid.
- Mobility -would be necessary 100% of the time in responding to emergencies and patrolling the building.
- Continuous standing -would not be standing in one place for any extended length of time. Uses stairs in responding to fire alarms -no elevators.
- No driving required.
- Work inside 80% of shift, patrol outside 20% of shift.
