Job description

Objectives

  • The General Manager needs to run their hotel with the care and diligence that someone would run their own business.
  • Maximize Topline and Market share goals ensuring the hotel is leading its competitive set in all metrics.
  • Ensure financial responsibility, by coaching leaders on profitability, proactively flexing expenses when top line is soft, providing the tools to the team to run their departments effectively, yet efficiently, managing all labor and expenses tightly.
  • Deliver excellent customer (internal and external) experience. Be present in our operations, the market, and our competitive set, ensuring that we are positioned as the industry leader, evolving our guest and team experiences, our programming and social media presence, community outreach and collaboration, as such maintaining our place as a destination of choice as well as the employer of choice.
  • Create, review, and constantly improve organizational effectiveness by maintaining processes, overseeing employees, establishing a highly motivational work environment, and implementing innovative changes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Topline driver:

  • Lead and collaborate with the sales, marketing, social media, and revenue management teams to drive top line revenue by proactively managing segmentation, promotions, packages, and client outreach, dynamically managing rate, and keeping the brand top-of-mind.
  • In conjunction with the sales and revenue management teams, conduct a daily business review focusing on prospecting and the potential business results of each potential prospect, review sales strategies and maintain a business mix that will ensure the hotel achieves maximum revenue potential.
  • Collaborate with the social media and marketing teams, ensuring our social media presence is on-brand, relevant and well-interacted with, implement marketing & promotional campaigns to attract new hotel and restaurant guests.
  • Play a pivotal role in hotel sales and community outreach efforts, including calling on top accounts, meeting clients, hosting luncheons and receptions, and meeting with local contacts, vendors, partners, etc. to maintain positive relationships and great standing in the community.
  • Work with department heads to create departmental paths and projects, prescribe timelines and priorities, assign performance goals, and ensure their timely completion.

Lead a culture of excellence through Hiring retaining and developing best in class talent

  • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, training and 30-60-90 plans for all open positions as prescribed by our S.O.P.’s, ensuring we are hiring to have the right people on our bus.
  • Motivate, coach, counsel and discipline all management personnel, according to our S.O.P.'s, and ensure that managers are holding the standards in their departments, counseling their teams, and following the appropriate disciplinary steps when needed.
  • Ensure leaders and team members alike have career/succession plans in place and collaborate with the team to ensure we are collectively moving toward their goals, and ours, providing the necessary coaching, training, and development to elevate their skill sets.
  • Solicit team member and guest feedback to ensure the experience we are providing for both internal and external guests exceeds our standards and expectations, learning from experiences and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Oversight of human resources functions including payroll, wage/benefit administration, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, recognition and celebrations, and compliance with established labor regulations.
  • Collaborate with the human resources manager and department heads to ensure all annual performance appraisals are conducted in a timely fashion and as prescribed by our S.O.P.’s.

Financial responsibility and oversight of the business

  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting, financial, inventory, and analytical tools to ensure the team has all the software and information needed, as well as the skills required, to ensure performance to budget and the production of accurate monthly financials,
  • Ensure accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reporting, monthly reporting, capital expenditures, and adherence to the annual hotel budget are proactively managed.
  • Manage the profitability of the hotel, proactively provide guidance to achieve revenue targets, and work with the accounting team and department heads to implement and manage declining department checkbooks, ensuring expenses are flexing to actualized revenue, controlling costs and maximizing bottom line without sacrificing brand or experiential values.

Be the bunkhouse brand ambassador

  • Ensure all brand standards across Design, Operations and Marketing are adhered to daily.
  • Walk every department and floor of the hotel weekly with all department heads, ensuring the hotel's physical appearance, cleanliness, landscaping, and upkeep, establishing preventative maintenance programs per department as needed, review all repair & maintenance needs and ensure alignment on timeline for completion.
  • Work with the Design teams, owners and Operations support at Bunkhouse to ensure CAPEX projects are approved and executed on up to all stakeholder expectations.
  • Ensure the hotel meets all health, safety and security laws and regulations, all operating permits, dues, and subscriptions are in place and up to date.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Five (5) years of experience in hospitality or service industry at executive management level
  • Hotel opening experience a plus
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • Proven financial management
  • Experience with performance management
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of quality construction techniques and standards
  • Business Acumen
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in related or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ethical Conduct
  • Servant Leadership mindset
  • Computer Proficiency: Microsoft Office
  • Internal and external customer service expertise
  • An eye for detail and familiarity with Bunkhouse properties

Working Conditions/Environment

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually
  • The person having this responsibility may have to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on a daily basis; anything over fifty (50) pounds is considered a two (2) person lift
  • The person having this position may have to sit for six (6) hours, stand and/or walk, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for two (2) hours per day.
