Job description

Summary
Codes healthcare records for the purpose of accurate data, reimbursement, research, statistics for planning and comparative quality data in compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis, operation(s) and procedure(s) using the latest edition of International Classification of Diseases (ICD) classification system, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) system and Evaluation and Management (E&M) guidelines. Assigns charges including but not limited to emergency department and injection/infusion and abstracts as needed.
Qualifications
Education
Associate's degree in medical insurance, billing, coding or a related field is required.
Bachelor's degree in medical insurance, billing, coding or a related field is preferred.
High School Diploma or equivalent and five years of coding experience in the healthcare setting may be considered in lieu of an Associate's degree.
Experience
3 or more years of medical coding experience and/or successful completion of the Coder III competency checklist is required.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
One of the certifications listed below is required: Hospital coder: RHIA, RHIT or CCS In lieu of RHIA, RHIT or CCS credential, may consider candidates with COC, CIC or CPC Home Health/Hospice coder: RHIA, RHIT, HCS-D or HCS-H Clinic coder: RHIA, RHIT, CPC or CCS-P
