ABOUT THE ROLE:

Horticulturists maintain and propagate plants at Carnivero’s high quality standards. They are responsible for greenhouse upkeep and maintenance. Horticulturists report to the Horticultural Team Manager. Carnivero is a close-knit, fast-paced environment and staff must have a high level of accountability, growth mindset and strong work ethic to ensure Carnivero can grow and flourish. This is a full time, hourly position, expected to work 40+ hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accountable for high quality plant health and continuous upkeep
• Waters greenhouses
• Carries out fertilization regimens
• Executes propagation activities (seed sowing, cuttings, etc..)
• Maintains excellent greenhouse and tool organization and cleanliness
• Implements Integrated Pest Management strategies via biological, cultural and chemical controls.
• Helps with greenhouse improvement activities
• Eliminates weeds and other pests from the greenhouse.
• Does some equipment maintenance
• Facilitates automated processes where applicable
• Writes standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all routine greenhouse maintenance and upkeep tasks.
• Executes experiments to optimize plant growing protocols.
• Facilitates acclimation of plants to the greenhouse (both imported and from in-house tissue culture).
• Assists with order fulfillment and construction projects as required.
• Maintains a positive, team-building attitude even in a sometimes chaotic, fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We’re looking for someone with a high level of accountability, strong work ethic and can-do attitude. You’re willing to go the extra mile to help Carnivero grow and flourish. You may not be an expert in carnivorous plants or tropicals but have the hunger to learn rapidly.

As a small company, you’ll need to wear multiple hats and roll up your sleeves to get jobs done that affect Carnivero’s business success. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform all essential duties. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• 1+ years experience growing carnivorous plants, tropicals or ornamentals such as orchids or aroids.
• Can do attitude, willing to do what it takes to ensure Carnivero's growth and success
• Extreme attention to detail and ability to follow directions
• Strong digital organization skills (spreadsheets, Google docs, etc)
• Great communication skills
• Ability to easily receive and respond to feedback
• A love for plants and curiosity to learn more

Bonus:

• Previous nursery experience
• Construction experience
• Equipment maintenance experience
• Experience with online store management

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Remaining in a seated or standing position for extended periods
• Performing repetitive tasks with hands, fingers, and wrists
• Exercising a consistently high degree of accuracy when using fine motor skills
• Wearing gloves and other required personal protective equipment for extended periods
• Able to lift 25-50 pounds at a time

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
