Description

Position Title:Home Visitor

Organization: Kai Ming, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides free full day full-year and full-day part-year Head Start preschool services to eligible children ages 0-5 years old in San Francisco, CA with funding from Head Start, the California Department of Education, First 5 San Francisco and San Francisco Office of Early Care & Education.

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Regional Manager, the Home Visitor will maintain a caseload of 10-12 families of children ages 0-3 years and/or expectant families. The Home Visitor will deliver high quality comprehensive, early childhood education and family services to improve the outcomes for young children and their families.

Job Type: Full time, Exempt

Reports to: Regional Manager

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains caseload of 10-12 families; visits each family home for at least 90 minutes weekly

  • Plan home visits and socialization activities according to the adopted curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Facilitate bi-monthly socialization experiences and other family group activities in partnership with Home Visitors and families.

  • Provide Prenatal & Postpartum services to expectant families that focuses on education, services that address fetal development, nutrition, labor and delivery, breastfeeding education and infant care practices.

  • Provide attachment-based and parent-child relationship-building education and support services to families.

  • Conduct screenings and ongoing assessment of young childrens development in collaboration with parents; utilize screening results and observations to make appropriate child referrals for support services.

  • Assess family strengths, interests, and needs. Collaborate with families to establish family development goals, and document this collaborative process in family partnership agreements.

  • Support and advise parents with respect to childrens health status, including medical follow-up, physical health, dental health, mental health, and nutritional intake.

  • Collaborate with program support staff to plan and provide activities to complete health screening and other health-related requirements as established in policies and procedures.

  • Work collaboratively with ERSEA and other staff to recruit and enroll new families and assure smooth orientation and transition.

  • Provide management, crisis intervention, and resource referral services.

  • Complete and maintain accurate and timely documentation of home visits, socialization experiences, and other relevant activities.

  • Implement an agency recruitment plan.

  • Maintain confidentiality of family records and information.

  • Participate fully in supervision and training experiences.

  • Collaboration with families and program staff to develop and implement individual child transition plans for children transitioning in and out of Early Head Start, Head Start and other child care settings.

  • Attendance at IFSP meetings is required

Qualifications

Competencies:

  • AA Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Social Sciences, Social Work, or related field is required.

  • 2 years experience providing services to children and families

  • Must have good organizational skills and proven ability to work within timelines to meet demands

  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards

  • Familiarity with various computer applications, including Google Suite, email, and databases

  • Bilingual (Chinese/English) preferred

 

Knowledge and experience:

  • Principles and practices of the ECE and/or family services field, including reflective practice and dual language learning.

  • Experience with Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), Ages and Stages Questionnaire

  • Curriculum development, quality improvement planning and implementation. Experience with Home Based curriculum implementation preferred. (i.e. Parents as Teachers, Partners for a Healthy Baby, HELP at Home, etc.)

 

Other Requirements:

  • Annual physical exam and TB clearance

  • Criminal background clearance

  • Child Abuse Index clearance

  • Adherence to the Confidentiality Agreement

  • Adherence to the Child Abuse Reporting Mandate

  • Adhere to the Kai Ming Code of Conduct and all other internal policies and procedures

  • Accountable for the health, safety, and supervision of all children and families
