Job description

Summary: Work with, mentor and support SMOC Family Child Care educators. Assist parents and families with any concerns, issues or questions related to child care or child development. Contribute to a favorable community image while advocating for the program, children and families.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Monitor activities within family child care homes through documented home visits.

Support educators in identifying and meeting children’s needs.

· Provide support through curriculum development, behavior modification technique, resource information and mediation.

· Assure standards for EEC licensing are met. Report any substandard homes or non-compliances with EEC or SMOC regulations to Family Child Care Coordinator and/or Director.

· Become familiar with tools and requirements of the PQR and QRIS; provide assistance to educators, as needed.

· Provide support to families as needed.

· Maintain current children’s files.

· Assist with substitute care, as an EEC Assistant, in emergencies. As needed, assist in making substitute arrangements for educators who are planning to be out or calling in an absence.

· Attend staff meetings as requested. Provide feedback and input on educator growth and development by assisting with the development of training ideas for educators.

· Attend and participate in SMOC training workshops as requestedProvide fiscal documentation.

· Review educator’s lesson plans and spend time reflecting on content.

· Collect and maintain child assessment reports and any other paperwork that is to be kept on file by SMOC Family Child Care System.

· Communicate program concerns and/or issues to supervisor.

· Work cooperatively with supervisor to recruit, interview and orient new educators.

· Contacts should contribute to a positive, supportive relationship between family, educator and program.

· Maintain confidentiality of families, educators and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.

· Maintain and develop community relations and resources.

· Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.

· Attend & participate in engagement team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.

· Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.

· Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as, SMOC policies & procedures.

· Available to respond to phone calls and text messages from Providers after hours when needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

· AA, BA or BS in early childhood education or related filed preferred.

· Experience in early childhood education, curriculum, child development, and/or family support.

· Knowledge of or ability to become familiar with EEC regulations governing Family Child Care.

Experience in or familiarity with Family Child Care preferred.

· Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and ability to meet insurance standards.

· Commitment to understanding and supporting families with diverse backgrounds

· Able to effectively supervise and communicate with family child care educators.

· Effectively communicate and work with children and with families.

· Bi-lingual, (Portuguese, Spanish) preferred.

· Computer Skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

Organizational Relationship: Directly reports to Family Child Care Coordinator and Director. Indirectly reports to Director of SMOC Child Care & Head Start Services. Direct reports of this position are None. Indirect reports of this position are None.

Physical Requirement: Must be able to handle the physical aspects of the position including lifting a child. Recent physical exam determining good health and meeting all EEC requirements to become assistant certified. Must have reliable transportation.

Working Conditions: Monitoring of the providers’ homes is necessary. Transportation to and from these locations will be the responsibility of the employee, with a travel reimbursement. As part of the responsibilities of this position, the family child care Home Monitor will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
