Open Arms Home Health Care - Des Moines is seeking part-time Home Health Aides to provide basic patient care for Home Health patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The positions are for a single practice location in an assisted living facility in Ames. The current employment opportunities are as follows:
Part-time - day shift 7:00 am - 3:00 pm; days vary, inquire for specific opening
Part-time - overnight shift 11:00 pm - 7:00 am, including every other weekend/holiday; days vary, inquire for specific opening

Minimum Qualifications
High School GED. Demonstrate ability to pass the Open Arms Home Health Aide Competency Assessment Evaluation. Possess physical strength, agilities and sensory functions necessary to perform tasks. Applicant must successfully complete the post-offer process including criminal history and background check. CPR/BLS is preferred. Must have reliable transportation to fulfill scheduled work shift assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated compassion and aptitude for provision of Home Health care; it is preferred, but not required that the candidate has completed a nurse aide or Home Health Aide training from an appropriate training program totaling 75 hours, which includes 16 hours of supervised practical training; 1 to 2 years’ experience as a Home Health Aide working with elderly or ill patients; at a minimum, employees must satisfy the Open Arms competency assessment evaluation before being assigned duties.
Job Description
This position requires bending, stooping, crouching, walking, kneeling, turning, standing for long periods of time, and lifting. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and assist clients to safely transfer, if required by the plan of care. 80% of time spent standing, 10% of time spent walking and 10% of time spent sitting. Must have average hearing and visual acuity. Must attend regular staff meetings and in-services to accrue 12 hours per year continuing education/training related to Home Health Care.
- Follows the written patient care plan as written by the Primary Nurse managing the client’s case
- Confirms the physician’s orders for the client’s plan of care
- Provides hands-on individualized personal cares for client
- Monitors and reports changes in the client’s condition
- Performs simple procedures as an extension of therapy services such as simple exercises as instructed by the therapist(s)
- Maintains records of patient care, condition, progress, or problems and reports and discusses observations with supervisor or case manager
- May provide light housekeeping in accordance with the client’s plan of care
- Familiarity with Microsoft programs and Windows based software is preferred.
- Agency documents clinical data and time logs via computer software
