What is an Hockey Broadcast Technician?

Here’s your chance to "Score” with SMT, the industry leader in sports broadcasting technology! NHL Broadcast Technicians have the opportunity to work with SMT’s award-winning and globally recognized Player and Puck tracking technology for your local SoCal teams.
Successful technicians have an exceptional attention span to simultaneously monitor computer applications, follow the events of the game without becoming distracted and effectively communicate with other team members.
This is a seasonal, part-time position. This position is not eligible for full-time benefits. The approved salary range for this role is $25-35/Hour.
What is your Daily Impact at SMT?
Our NHL Broadcast Technician team reports to the arena six hours before puck drop and work through the duration of the game. You will work hands-on with cutting-edge sports technology while being instrumental in communication to both on-site and remote teams.
When Working Hands-On:
Broadcast Technicians verify system components are in working order and work directly with broadcasting mobile unit engineers to confirm video and communication feeds. Operation of the hockey tracking system during games is a key play for our teams as well. Like solving problems? Our technicians also perform system maintenance, and troubleshoot system components including computers, cameras, cables, and networks
The Importance of Communication:
Our teams create and continue an open communication channel with Network Television personnel (including ESPN and TNT) as well NHL & SMT staff both on-site and in Durham production studio for pre-game verification of Player and Puck Tracking deliverables. This includes relaying system and hardware issues to support staff for repair or replacement.
What Do You Bring to SMT?
- TV broadcast background preferred
- Open availability (must be available to work daytime, night, weekend, and holiday games)
- Extensive PC gaming skills (use of hotkeys and gaming mouses are pluses)
- Basic understanding of hockey terminology and game play
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and Windows OS
