Project Overview

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.


The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

This position will support the High-Level Waste (HLW) Vitrification efforts from restoration to completion. The HLW is the most complex of all the WTP facilities and will host some of the top professionals in their field to design, engineer, procure and construct HLW vitrification systems.


This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed.

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.


Position Summary

Tool Control/Material Specialists report to Construction. Position is responsible for supporting WTCC Tool Control functions including the preparation of Field Material Requisitions for NP tools and materials. Coordinates with Tool Room, Asset Management, Procurement, Construction and Field Material Management to coordinate return to stock and disposition forms. May perform tool inventories. Updates ToolHound database and prepares reports, tracks exiting employee tool status.


Responsibilities

  • Reports to and receives direction from the Site Warehouse Superintendent
  • Maintains direct working relationship with Safety, Construction superintendents, Asset Management, Field Material Management, Procurement, and craft
  • Assists crafts and clerical personnel in the process of receipts, return to stock, dispositions/disposal of surplus project materials, and repairs, of project materials.
  • Conducts inventory of tool crib items as requested.
  • Utilization of inventory data base management tools.
  • Originate Field Material Requests (FMRs) for Non-Permanent items.
  • Maintain files of requisitions, receiving reports and related inventory documents
  • Facilitate expedited procurement of items for critical path activities.
  • Generate and analyze low inventory report for all onsite tool cribs. Submit FMR’s as needed.
  • Research, evaluate and procure specialized product as needed and requested.
  • Continually facilitate communication between Buyers, End Users, Craft and Superintendents.
  • Support the project through the research, procurement, and storage of tools.
  • Create and Submit FMRs for tool repairs as needed.
  • Initiate Disposition/Excess of tools, working with Government Property Specialist to properly excess items as needed.
  • Initiate, complete and submit quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Work with and guide craft personnel on matters involving tool and material identification, property excess, inventory, and tool repairs.
  • Monitor Min/Max for Janitorial Supplies and submit FMR’s as needed.
  • Monitor Lumber Supplies and submit FMR’s as needed.
  • Develop and maintain direct working relationship with Safety, Superintendents, Asset Management, Field Material Management, Procurement, and Craft.
  • This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC.


Qualification and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computer/software science, environment management or a related. In lieu of degree, 6 years of related professional experience required.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
  • Intermediate experience and knowledge of the Microsoft office suite.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior government experience.
  • Experience with inventory data base management tools.
  • Working knowledge with ToolHound and Bechtel Procurement System.
  • Fluent use of Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in Excel.
  • Min/Max Management.
  • Broad knowledge of construction tools and materials.
  • Experience working with craft.
