- Properly identifies the inpatients using the hospital identification wristband
- Properly identifies patients for Blood Bank procedures using the Blood Bank identification wristband
- Properly identifies patients and adequately performs venipunctures and/or skin punctures.
- Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures
- Clearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentation
- Evaluates specimen adequacy
- Receives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate department
- Monitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering supplies
- Deletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason
- Collates requests, answers the telephone, delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tube
- Always demonstrates proper telephone etiquette
- Consistently assumes responsibility for calls, correctly answers questions, directs inquiries and takes messages
- Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs
- Is responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasks
- Performs other related duties as required
