Description
Sagis Patient Diagnostics is looking for a Laboratory Aide to help us out in our Pathology Lab.
FLSA: Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Pay rate: $18.50/hour
Schedule: Mon-Fri 3:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
What would you be doing?
- Make sure the proper request forms have been used.
- Make sure the requisition is properly identified with the patient's full name, DOB, tissue site, date of collection, and physician's name.
- Make sure the specimen bottle is properly identified with the patient's name, tissue site, date of collection, and physician's name.
- Make sure the specimen bottle matches the requisition form and that complete demographic and specimen source information is given.
- Properly label all specimen bottles and cassettes with the appropriate accession number.
- Enter data into the laboratory LIS system.
- Transcription and mailing of laboratory business correspondence.
- Maintenance of various logs including special stains/deeper levels requests, H&E/special stains quality, microscope verification and routine maintenance, corrective action log for accessioning and grossing specimens.
- Ensure the routine maintenance of the equipment in the lab.
- Assist the Histology department with other routine work as needed.
- Handling and directing telephone and other incoming and outgoing laboratory communication as needed.
- Make sure slides are filed properly. This shall include ensuring proper labels are affixed to slides.
- Perform other tasks in the laboratory as deemed necessary by the Laboratory Supervisor.
- Adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures of Sagis.

Requirements
Requirements:
- High school education or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in biology or related field strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to take and follow direction and to know who the resources are for their direction.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, high-stress, deadline driven environment.
- Ability to work in a standing position at times.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to work late shifts and weekends when necessary.
- Familiarity with and skill in the operation of computers.
- Ability to interact well with people and pleasant telephone manners.
- Ability to work well under direction of the Laboratory Director and others in a supervisory capacity.
- Strong ethics and commitment to excellence.
- Office experience, preferably in a medical or other health care setting.
