Histology Assistant / Slide Distribution
It is the responsibility of a histology technician to process histology specimens, perform routine and special staining procedures and prepare associated paperwork to facilitate the diagnosing of a pathologist. It is the responsibility of Slide Distribution to distribute the processed specimens as slides to the physicians in the practice.
Position Summary of Major Accountabilities
1. Distribute specimen blocks to the histotechnicians and subsequently the produced slides to the physicians in the practice.
2. Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot equipment or instrument malfunctions
3. Understand all phases of routine and special histologic techniques
4. Maintains department facilities in neat and professional order
5. Exercise attention to detail and sound judgment in performing clinical duties
6. Assures the Pathology Department adheres to all regulatory organization safety, security, quality and compliance standards (OSHA, HIPAA, CAP etc.) and assures readiness for inspections
7. Collaborates with other departments within and outside the laboratory
8. Participates in process improvement programs
9. Understands and adheres to the histology budget
10. Makes recommendations for cost containment to Histology Manager
11. Adheres to productivity standards
12. Minimizes overtime and follows proper procedures for overtime requests of Histology Manager
13. Meets or exceeds Piedmont Pathology behavior standards (attitude, communication, ownership, privacy, teamwork, integrity and respect)
14. Adheres to Piedmont Pathology’s Attendance Policy
15. Performs other duties as requested by the Histology Manager, Pathologists, the Technical Director or the Practice Manager
Requirements, Certifications and Licensure
- HT (ASCP) or eligible or equivalent knowledge and experience (not required)
- Satisfies and maintains continuing medical education requirements
