THV/HIPPY Home Visitor Job Description
Position Classification & Compensation
This role is classified as a non-exempt full-time employee as those terms are defined in the Center’s Employee Handbook and are eligible for employee benefits as defined for this classification.
Project: Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is a home visiting model that focuses on parent-involved and parent-directed early learning. HIPPY services are offered to parents, who then work with their own 2- through 5-year-old children. HIPPY’s mission is to help parents prepare their children for success in school and beyond. The model supports parents as their children’s first teacher by providing them the tools, skills, and confidence to teach their young children in the home.
Project tentative start date: 04/01/2024 - 04/15/2024Summary: The THV/HIPPY Home Visitor is responsible for engaging parents and caregivers enrolled in the HIPPY Program in a developmentally appropriate curriculum, that features role play as the method of teaching.  Through home visits and community group meetings, the Home Visitor works directly with caregivers to improve outcomes for preschool children. This project is funded by the Texas Dept. of Family & Protective Services, Prevention and Early Intervention Division (PEI), and the scope of work is subject to change as needed to ensure the project’s success and to meet funder requirements. Likewise, complementary changes may be made to projects or individual goals and employee expectations based on agency/management strategic goals. This is a team project, and team members are expected to be collegial, mutually supportive, and focused on excellent services to clients, fidelity to program models, and ethical provision of services.Responsibilities
  • Help identify and recruit families for the HIPPY Program in participating communities/ schools
  • Provide assessment, enrollment education, and support as he/she assists expecting or parenting caregivers and their families.
  • Maintain a caseload of HIPPY families who will receive a weekly home visit and monthly group meeting over a period of 30 weeks.
  • Utilize peer support skills by modeling, mentoring, and sharing program objectives and information to enhance parenting skills, building trusting relationships with families based on curriculum with a family-centered approach.
  • Meet weekly with HIPPY coordinator to role-play upcoming curriculum and prepare for home visits, group meetings, and community service activities. 
  • Assist in the planning and execution of group meetings for HIPPY parents, as facilitated by the HIPPY Coordinator.
  • Review and organize instructional materials in preparation for the group meetings and home visits with the families
  • Conduct weekly home visits with each family to role-play the HIPPY curriculum and revisit families according to need.
  • Develop and support a volunteer infrastructure at the HIPPY site by connecting HIPPY parents and community members to volunteer opportunities and track hours completed by parents.
  • Participate and attend Texas HIPPY trainings, events, and service projects.
  • Provide referrals to early childhood education and community resources as needed by the client and their families.
  • Conduct data collection and data entry of evaluation instruments to measure progress and impact of the HIPPY Program.
  • Attend parent/ child field trips.
  • Adhere to agency and program model requirements, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Understand the scope and breadth of the program’s scope of work and participate as part of a team of professionals in ensuring all services are delivered in accordance with the commitment to the funder.
  • Participates in ongoing program planning, monitoring, and quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in the Performance and Quality Improvement processes, ensuring services are being delivered with fidelity to model and contractual/licensing obligations.
  • Track and document time and services with accuracy to ensure services are provided according to contract provisions.
  • Participate in community outreach, including active membership in relevant coalitions, and provide presentations/booths on universal child abuse prevention and agency programs that benefit the community.
  • Learn direct service methodologies employed by the Center and as required by the funder.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships at work sites, including the Center’s campus, schools, client homes, and other partnering organizations.
  • Participates as part of the team in problem-solving when issues arise that challenge service delivery and partnerships.
  • Performs other assignments as determined by the Program Manager.

  • Knowledge of the HIPPY/Texas Home Visiting Program.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to diverse individuals at all organizational levels.

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from all walks of life.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in program scope, assigned tasks, and modalities utilized.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Parent of a HIPPY 3, 4, 5-year old child, preferred or weekly access to a HIPPY 3, 4, 5- year old.
  • Experience in early childhood is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the community the program serves, including resources available in the geographic area
  • Must have reliable transportation in order to conduct home visits
  • Must be able to work a flexible time schedule
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish and English is required.
  • Exceptional computer skills, including proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite of business applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from all walks of life.
  • Must have driver’s license, vehicle in safe operating condition, and maintain proof of current insurance at Texas minimum standards to complete home visits.
  • Must be able and willing to travel for trainings/meetings/conferences.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, and lift and carry at least 25 pounds.

Flexibility
  • Every program at the Center is community and client-centric. Working with diverse partners to meet the needs of families in our community demands flexibility. The scope of work is subject to change based on the team’s performance and the funder’s expectations and on agency/management strategic goals.  The flexibility needed in this role includes scheduling of meetings/events/activities, scheduling supervision sessions with staff, training, staff meetings, and out-of-town travel for training and/or grant requirements.
