Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Editing
Edit higher education online courses at various editing levels, applying standards and style specified by the university. Editing levels include:
- Grammar and usage
- Style
- Functionality
- Logic and factual accuracy
- Clarity and tone
- Accessibility
- Formatting
- Alignment and consistency across all course documents
Work Management
Complete the editing task assigned in a thoughtful, thorough, and professional manner.
- Deadlines: Course editing takes place on a pre-determined schedule. Once a project is accepted, editors are expected to complete the work during the specified timeframe and meet all deadlines.
- Time commitment for projects is 10-20 hours per course which must be completed according to the schedule provided.
- Communication: Editors will communicate with the client editing partner, the instructional designers, and the lead instructional designer. Concerns will be escalated to the appropriate person early in the process.
This job requires an editing test that covers all levels of editing specified above and the completion of a practice course. You need to pass the EASE editing test to be considered for any Ease editing projects.
- Particular clients have their own tests and sample courses that must be passed in order to be an approved editor for their projects.
Required Qualifications
- 2–3 years of editing experience covering all editing levels
- Close attention to detail
- Mastery of: rules of grammar, usage, punctuation, sentence structure, and mechanics
- Chicago Manual of Style
- APA citation style
- Microsoft Word
Preferred Qualifications
- Online learning design experience
- Online course editing experience
