HS Special Education Teacher - Long Term Substitute
Position Title:Secondary School Teacher
Department: Teachers
Report To: School Principal/Assistant Principal
Status:Long Term Substitute
Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's Degree.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid PA teaching certificate and Act 34, 114 and 151 clearances.
Job Duties:
1. Develops and selects appropriate instructional goals, objectives, and activities.
2. Considers and accommodates for the needs of the learners.
3. Designs short range and long range instructional goals.
4. Creates a supportive learning environment and sets behavioral limits which guide pupils' activities.
5. Selects methods and materials suited to students' needs.
6. Thorough knowledge of content matter and familiarity with the ability to use instructional materials.
7. Anticipates emergencies and prevents problems in area of responsibility.
8. Cooperates with school district procedures for selection, inventory, acquisition, and use of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
9. Assesses and adjusts tasks and materials to meet individualized needs of the pupil.
10. Engages all learners.
11. Manages student learning and behavior.
12. Establishes and manages classroom procedures.
13. Communicates effectively.
14. Collects and documents pupils' progress and work.
15. Uses formal and informal assessment to monitor student progress.
16. Appraises and evaluates strengths and weaknesses including own performance, lesson execution and outcomes, as well as pupil performance and progress.
17. Communicates with parents regarding students' progress.
18. Meets and fulfills professional responsibilities.
19. Participates in curriculum revision and/or development activities when chosen.
20. Establishes collaborative relationships with parents and the community.
21. Communicates, cooperates and participates with administrators and colleagues in activities designed to accomplish goals of the school district.
22. Demonstrates integrity, ethical behavior and professional conduct.
23. Demonstrates appropriate language usage.
24. Uses available opportunities for professional development as provided by professional organizations, publications, workshops, professional meetings, and conference attendance.
