OVERVIEW
The ECS Science Teacher has strong teaching abilities, an understanding of pedagogy and instructional practices in secondary education, and a strong interest in environmental studies. The Science Teacher works in a highly collaborative environment and makes deep connections with students. The Science Teacher works closely with his/her grade level team, instructional coaches, and principal. Candidates should be energetic and progressive minded, with a willingness to work collaboratively with grade level and vertical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Environmental Charter School’s scope and sequence to create purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that employ a variety of teaching strategies, provide meaningful instruction, and maximize time on task
- Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment in which all students can experience success
- Structure compelling, standards-based lessons that challenge students’ critical thinking and align with lesson, unit, and grade-level objectives
- Regularly evaluate student progress using a variety of assessment methods including standardized assessments, teacher-designed tests, and samples of student work
- Utilize the google platform for document development
- Support the development of the 1:1 device implementation for students, including instructing digital citizenship
- Fully participate in opportunities for professional growth, collaboration with other program directors, and outside professional opportunities
- Communicate regularly with families to share academic progress and develop a supportive home-school relationship
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- PA certification in Biology 7-12
- Prior teaching experience at the secondary level preferred
- Advanced placement certification or willingness to obtain certification highly desirable
- Familiarity with charter schools
- Minimum starting salary of $43,716 with consideration for verified prior years’ teaching experience.
