Job Description

The High School Science Achievement Manager will serve as an integral member of the KIPP New Orleans Academics Team. The purpose of the High School Academics Team at KIPP New Orleans is to work with School Leaders to drive student achievement and the KNOS academic vision. We achieve this purpose through developing excellent teachers, supporting great coaching, providing world-class curriculum and being relentless about progress monitoring. 

Responsibilities

ACADEMIC MODEL DEVELOPMENT AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • Develops program standards and supporting content aligned with federal, state, and college/career requirements
  • Assesses student performance data to drive continuous improvement of programs, with school leader input and considering differing student population needs
  • Strategically sources, pilots, and scales innovative models (e.g., blended learning) for specific area of focus
  • Elevates areas of potential conflict between academic model and specific programmatic restrictions to academics team to adapt the model

ADVANCEMENT OF A CULTURE FOCUSED ON ACADEMICS AND EQUITY

  • Promotes strong academic culture throughout sphere of influence, ensuring team focuses all activities on improving student outcomes in college, career, and civic readiness
  • Designs program offerings across schools to drive educational equity

STUDENT SUPPORTS (ACADEMIC, BEHAVIORAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL)

  • Creates supports to meet the needs of students in specific area of focus and provides materials and instructional plan to serve special populations (e.g., special education, credit deficient, ELL)
  • Incorporates practices that support students’ behavioral, social, and emotional development

RESOURCE ALIGNMENT

  • Allocates resources throughout program to ensure program vision can be implemented in line with academic model

PRINCIPAL MANAGEMENT AND COACHING

  • Implements program in area of focus across school network
  • Coaches principals across network to ensure consistent delivery and implementation of program

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Makes program decisions, considering implications for students, teachers, administrators, parents, and broader community
  • Seeks input from academics team leaders, school leaders, and other key constituents in making effective decisions

EFFECTIVE TALENT ALLOCATION

  • Places elective program leaders in high-need positions
  • Encourages top quality leaders to seek out and rise to overcome challenging placements

MEASUREMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

  • Defines and monitors key metrics to measure program effectiveness
  • Benchmarks program performance against peer organizations
  • Improves curriculum and instructional coaching

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

  • Determines performance standards for program staff
  • Supports implementation of performance evaluation system across team, ensuring key competencies for effective instructional delivery are appropriately assessed In area of focus

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Structures, sequences, and delivers program-specific professional development to ensure effective program implementation
  • Identifies trends in student performance data in program to inform continuous improvement of professional development
  • Delivers feedback and hard conversations with program staff

CAREER PATHING AND SUCCESSION PLANNING

  • Invests in developing team members to grow into future department leaders, providing stretch opportunities and chances for professional growth
  • Encourages high performers to seek out growth opportunities within the organization
  • Monitors and assists with development and implementation of individual career development plans

ADVANCEMENT OF A TALENT-FOCUSED CULTURE

  • Seeks input from team to understand current pulse on culture, how it may vary from school to school, and on how to make improvements
  • Supports talent-focused culture in team management
Qualifications

The following are required of all KIPP New Orleans Achievement Managers:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years teaching experience in urban, open enrollment schools and demonstrated student results at an exemplary level
  • Successful completion of State and Federal Criminal Background Check
  • Personal affinity to our mission and vision, as well as demonstrated commitment to our 5 core beliefs - Relentlessness, Equity, Achievement, Community, and Hope
  • Instructional Leadership: Adept at data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights across school-wide data
  • Instructional Leadership: Expertise in what the school-wide academic standards and state assessments require of students’ knowledge and skills to demonstrate mastery; able to translate student mastery requirements into instructional plans and strategies
  • Instructional Leadership: Deep understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies (e.g. make kids do the heavy lifting, pacing, stretch-it, etc.) based on comprehension of child development and pedagogy
  • Instructional Leadership: Command of instructional design and the benefits and tradeoffs of school design decisions in driving student achievement
  • Achievement Orientation: Demonstrated resilience and focus on student outcomes
  • Student Focus: Belief that all students, regardless of background, have the ability to go to and through college; demonstrated commitment to the school’s unique community
  • Talent Development: Demonstrated success in developing leadership capacity in others
  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrated ability to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives
  • Performance Management: Demonstrated student achievement results from teachers and leaders that he/she manages and coaches
  • Direction Setting: Ability to set direction across an entire school and motivate others to action
  • Provide documentation of either 1) received a COVID-19 vaccination or 2) have requested, and been granted, reasonable accommodation from the KNOS Director of Human Resources to be exempted from the requirements of this policy

The following are strongly preferred for all KIPP New Orleans Achievement Managers:

  • Masters in Education or aligned content
  • 3-5 years teaching experience with at least 2 years of leadership experience in urban, open enrollment schools and demonstrated student results at an exemplary level in both roles
  • State issued teaching credential

The physical demands and environmental conditions described below are representative, but not exhaustive,  of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.  All of these physical requirements should be able to be performed with clarity, coherence and connectedness of the KNOS vision, and reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Must be able to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to spend the majority of the day standing or mobile throughout the classroom, as well as talk, hear, grasp, reach and lift up to 30lbs with or without accommodations
  • Ability to concentrate in active and noisy environments such as cafeterias and playgrounds, to more moderate situations such as classrooms or large group professional settings
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment
  • Ability to handle potential high stress conditions

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Additionally, KIPP New Orleans Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage and retirement.
