Position: High School Recruiter


Position Overview: The role of the High School Recruiter is to increase the number of students for the West Town Academy
(WTA). The High School Recruiter reports to the WTA principal.


Position Responsibilities: Responsible for fostering, developing, and nurturing new and existing contacts within the
assigned community through research, in-person visits, appointments, phone calls, and emails
in an effort to meet enrollment goals.
Engagement and Recruitment

  • Develop innovative strategies for increasing the recruitment of prospective students.
  • Work with community coalitions to develop programs, events, and new initiatives that promote marketing and community relations objectives.
  • Participate in campus functions that benefit the student body as directed by WTA.Recruit applicants by attending events such as High School recruitment fairs, visiting community-based organizations, CPS SOAR programs, elected officials' offices, and other entities serving the community.
  • Organize and coordinate WTA’s annual Open House event.
  • Provide levels of outreach to prospective students via in-person visits, phone calls, emails, home visits, etc. to support the progression of students through enrollment.
  • Create a network of contacts with potential students through alumni, parents, faculty, and current students.
  • Perform and organize group tours.
  • Categorize lead cards generated by presentations and events.
  • Institute a High School visitation plan for potential candidates.
  • Deliver WTA approved presentations to prospective students.
  • Utilize approved telephone presentation and interview procedures during the enrollment process.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and updating of marketing materials used for outreach to prospective applicants interested in enrolling into WTA.
  • Develop a plan for connecting with other potential students based on referral information.

Intake Process

  • Assist applicants with completing all required forms for enrollment.
  • Makes daily updates to WTA’s tracking systems for potential applicants. Input leads on WTA’s tracking systems on a daily basis.
  • Supervise the Admissions Process by directing and supervising online admissions processes.
  • Respond to students regarding admissions decisions.
  • Manage lottery list activity.
  • Conduct interviews and set appointments for all candidates.

Administrative Services

  • Complete daily and weekly activity reports, in an accurate and timely manner. Provide comprehensive reports to the supervisor.
  • Develop and maintain a database of interested students for direct mail and email contact.
  • Address any inquiries, questions, concerns, or issues and ensure appropriate action is taken to the satisfaction of the student, schools, community-based organizations, and/or regulatory agencies in compliance with policy, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by WTA

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree, with 3+ years experience preferred
  • A strong commitment to community service, and familiarity with community education and employment challenges and issues
  • Experience with low-income, disadvantaged populations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Access); competent with social media, including Facebook, Excellent communication skills
  • Bi-lingual Spanish a plus

Salary and Benefits: This is a full time, permanent, career position. The salary is commensurate with experience. The agency benefit package includes health, life, and disability insurance, retirement plan, and

The Agency: Greater West Town Community Development Project (GWTP)’s Youth Unit primarily consists of the West Town Academy (WTA), a highly effective, state-recognized diploma-granting High School for students who have dropped out of Chicago Public Schools and wish to complete their secondary education. 75% of our youth are African-American, and 25% are Latino. Students range in age from 17-21
years of age. Most GWTP Youth Unit participants and WTA students are from low-income families, and approximately 15% are DCFS wards.
The GWTP Youth Unit plays a critical role in the lives of both our students and their communities. The Youth Unit and the WTA strive to demonstrate highly successful strategies for re-engaging, teaching and graduating our community’s many dropout youth. Additionally, the Youth Unit and WTA serve as a model for civic and government leaders to encourage the creation and expansion of resources and programs that effectively address the needs of our community’s many at-risk and dropout youth.
