NOTICE OF VACANCY (EXTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY)
POSITION: High School Reading Intervention Teacher (grant funded position for remainder of 2023-24 school year)
LOCATION: Kenowa Hills High School
START DATE/CALENDAR: Anticipated January 8, 2024 (subject to change)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Job Summary: A Reading Interventionist for 9-12 grades is responsible for providing targeted academic support to High School students struggling with reading and comprehension. This role aims to improve students' reading ability, comprehension, and overall performance by identifying areas of weakness, designing and implementing effective intervention strategies, and monitoring progress. The High School Reading Interventionist collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess Student Needs:
    • Administer diagnostic assessments to identify students' specific reading deficiencies.
    • Analyze assessment data to determine individual and group intervention needs.
    • Maintain accurate records of student assessments and progress.
  • Implement Effective Intervention Strategies:
    • Provide small-group or one-on-one instruction to students.
    • Use evidence-based teaching methods and strategies to address students' reading difficulties.
    • Adapt instruction to meet individual learning styles and needs.
  • Monitor and Adjust Interventions:
    • Regularly assess student progress to determine the effectiveness of interventions.
    • Modify intervention plans as needed to accommodate student growth.
    • Communicate progress updates to teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Collaborate with School Staff:
    • Work closely with classroom teachers to align intervention efforts with classroom curriculum.
    • Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
    • Share strategies and resources with colleagues to enhance overall math instruction.
  • Provide Feedback and Support:
    • Offer constructive feedback to students on their performance and effort.
    • Encourage students to develop a positive attitude toward math and a growth mindset.
    • Communicate with parents or guardians about students' progress and strategies for improvement.
  • Maintain Documentation:
    • Keep accurate records of intervention sessions, assessments, and student progress.
    • Keep daily, accurate and orderly PAR's in accordance with the district's state and federal program procedures.
    • Generate reports to track and share data on student outcomes.

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in education. Secondary English Language Arts (ELA) major and/or Reading Specialist endorsement (BR) preferred.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification.
  • Previous teaching experience, preferably in High School ELA.
  • Strong knowledge of 9-12 grade ELA curriculum and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed in reading.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and assessment tools.

A Reading Interventionist plays a crucial role in ensuring that High School students receive the necessary support to excel in ELA courses. By implementing effective interventions and working collaboratively with other stakeholders, the Reading Interventionist contributes to students' academic growth and success.
