The Dalton High School is seeking a full-time Math and ScienceLearning Specialist to start in September 2024. The ideal candidate will be open-minded, flexible, empathetic, collaborative, and kind. A demonstrated commitment to equity is critical.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction in the following content areas: algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, statistics, biology, chemistry, and physics.
- Support students in developing efficient and effective organizational skills, note-taking skills, time management, and general study skills in Math and Science.
- Encourage students to develop self-confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills; model and foster a growth mindset.
- Help ninth graders transition from middle to High School by providing differentiated instruction and collaborating with teachers and advisors.
- Assist in proctoring students with accommodations.
- Communicate and collaborate with the Learning Support team, psychologists, faculty, House Advisors, HS Administration, and families to meet students' needs.
- Document student progress via frequent email updates and twice-yearly narrative reports.
- Participate in regular faculty, staff, committee meetings, school functions, and school-wide professional development activities during and after school hours.
- Engage in professional development to meet the learning needs of adolescents with learning differences.
- Perform related duties and administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Math, Science, or other STEM subject.
- At least three years of experience working with middle or High School students who have learning differences and collaborating with teachers in individualizing strategies.
- Knowledge of educational and assistive technologies is highly desired.
