HOURS
Full time 10-month position (190 contract days).
Contract Unit: This position is part of the Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit.
FLSA: Exempt
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Qualifications
Eligibility for the Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate with the proper endorsement. IMPORTANT NOTE for Out-of-State Applicants: Out-of-state applicants can request a Professional Eligibility Certificate (PEC) if they hold a valid out-of-state certificate. For certification requirements please refer to the Maryland State Department of Education certification webpage. For Maryland testing requirements please check the ETS website.
Knowledge of both foundational and advanced Computer Science concepts to include how programming language help to solve problems, robotics programming, algorithm design, computer system organization and design, data organization and representation, and problem solving.
Knowledge of Computer Science including computer programming languages to include Java, Python, and C++.
Successful candidates must complete advanced training through the College Board to instruct students in AP level courses.
Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using the English language when deemed necessary.
Exemplary organizational and planning skills.
Ability to work effectively with central office supervisors, school-based administrators, teachers, other staff members, students, and parents.
Excellent planning, organizational, management, human relations skills, and oral and written communication skills.
Essential Functions
Develop and administer school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifie instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
